THE BIBLE
PSALM 121
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1 (NRSV)
The difficult situations that we encounter make us look for orientation in various places, which allows us to do things differently, but does not always result in the most successful path. We seek a friend’s counsel or a psychologist’s help to find what we consider to be the best solutions. Unfortunately, we forget the best place to find our response to these situations: the Bible.

God inspired many men and women in the history of Israel to testify to what had happened in their lives and how God changed each one and transformed them into people of faith, people obedient to God’s words. God wanted each one to be his follower, and revealed himself in a simple human being who taught us how we should live each day.

Today I want to invite you to continue this search not in the horoscope, not in someone who came to read your fortune in your hands, or in a letter.  There is no other place except the Bible. This is the right place to find true words of encouragement when we are troubled, to find happiness in the midst of sorrows, peace in the midst of desperation, or inspiration of the Holy Spirit to continue our paths with the certainty that God himself and his Son Jesus walk alongside us. Our kind and merciful God offers us, in addition to other resources like prayer which is very powerful, this marvelous book that is the best and truthful written teaching that we could ever find.

Let’s not fail to take advantage of it; let’s care for it and not fail to use it for personal and community growth. And as we scrutinize it, let’s hold on to what is just, noble, humble and the true love that we need to move ahead and look with new eyes at those around us and at the future. Let’s continue studying it, let’s continue growing and believing in this word that comes from God which we have received by grace. Let’s not forget that there are others near to us who wait for us to show it to them. Certainly, if we used it day by day, the world would be different.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for this powerful tool that we have in the Bible. Permit us to make good use of it and to not forget it, closed up in drawers. Amen.

LA BIBLIA
SALMO 121

Tuesday, April 17 GOD’S TIME Psalm 128

Tuesday, April 17
GOD’S TIME
PSALM 128

“…there is need of only one thing.  Mary has chosen the better part,
which will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:42 (NRSV)
We frequently overlook this great truth of the Psalm. Swept up in the whirlwind of our lives, we have multiplied our activities. Let us analyze all our time. We will see that we devote very little time to communion with God through Bible reading, prayer, or visiting other brothers and sisters. Therefore, in our day-to-day life, we struggle, we force ourselves to exhaustion and yet we fail. We forget the necessary things and we do not choose the better part.

We spend hours in front of the television viewing the famous “package” that is truly a package.  This separates us from our children, from our spouse, and makes it difficult to have time to communicate with God.

Let’s think today about what are our priorities; let’s put God in God’s due place. Surely, we will gain a lot, this will not be taken away from us, because it will be a blessing for us and for all who surround us.

Prayer:  Lord, help us to make space for you and enable us to gather ourselves as a family to praise you and love you more. Amen.

EL TIEMPO DE DIOS
SALMO 128

Pero sólo una cosa es necesaria;
y María ha escogido la buena parte,
la cual no le será quitada

Lucas 10:42

Monday, April 16 TRUE FRIENDS TELL US THE TRUTH Galatians 2:11-14

TRUE FRIENDS TELL US THE TRUTH
GALATIANS 2:11-14

But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face,
because he stood self-condemned.
Galatians 2:11 (NRSV)

“I am only accountable to God.” This is a phrase that can sound very spiritual and also can be an excuse not to be accountable to anyone else. Not even to God!

But Christians should be mutually accountable. We should depend on brothers and sisters in whom we trust and who truly love us, to be those who tell us the truth and are able to help us.

In the text for today, Paul confronts Peter face to face with his hypocrisy. What a shame for Peter! He knew from his prior experience of boasting and denial of Christ that he could not trust in his opinion of himself.

We all will likely reach the same conclusion sooner or later.  One way to assure yourself that you are not the last one to learn when you sin is by surrendering yourself. Ask a brother or sister in the faith to show you in what area you need to improve. They can help you give an account of yourself. Don’t be a spiritual loner. Surrender yourself!

Prayer:  Lord, allow that my true friends tell me the truth, may I be a true friend to others and may I make straight the path to your Kingdom. Amen.

Sunday, April 15 PERFECT PEACE 1 PETER 5:10

Sunday, April 15
PERFECT PEACE
1 PETER 5:10

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast
because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever
because the Lord, the Lord himself, is the rock eternal.  (NIV)

Isaiah 26:3-4

What is perfect peace? Perhaps a life without problems? A smooth passage to the future without shocks in the roadway? Not for Christians. We know that life on earth will never be easy, but God promises to keep us in perfect peace if our thoughts are fixed upon him.

One only finds perfect peace by having a relationship, minute by minute, with Jesus Christ. It’s a continuous faith, and the confidence that God has really everything determined. It’s to believe that each setback, each anxiety, every problem in every crisis will be amended by God.

You can live in peace, including during the inconveniences of life. You do not have to believe you need to solve everything yourself. Doesn’t this remove the pressure from within you?

Begin and end your day trusting in the one who keeps us in perfect peace.

Prayer: Loving God, thank you for offering peace in the middle of the pressures of life; thank you because I am not in charge, and because you have it all determined. Amen.

PAZ PERFECTA
1 PEDRO 5:10

Saturday, April 14 THE LORD HIMSELF IS ALREADY BEFORE YOU Joshua 1:9

Saturday, April 14
THE LORD HIMSELF IS ALREADY BEFORE YOU
JOSHUA 1:9

The Lord himself  goes before you and will be with you;
he will never leave you nor forsake you. do not be afraid or discouraged.

Deuteronomy 31:8

How comforting and liberating it is when we permit God to go before us! Stop and consider it for a moment. Can you cede the control of your life and of the circumstances to the Lord himself? Relax! His shoulders are sufficiently strong as to carry all your burdens.

Do you have a knot in your stomach right now, or a problem that makes you want to sleep until everything is over? Ask the Lord to go before you. Trust that he will never abandon you, and that he is solving everything.

If you have trusted in Christ as your Savior, the Spirit of God himself is alive, well, and working within you in each moment. What an astonishing miracle! The creator of the universe lives within you and is available to encourage you and help you to make the correct decisions in each moment. Although at times it may seem to be otherwise, we are never alone.

Prayer:  Thank you Lord for the incredible gift of your presence, in each one of the situations I confront. May I remember this and invoke your name while confronting the challenges of each day. Amen.

EL SEÑOR MISMO VA DELANTE DE TI
JOSUÉ 1:9

El Señor mismo marchará al frente de ti y estará contigo;
nunca te dejará ni te abandonará. No temas ni te desanimes.

Deuteronomio 31:8

FIGHTING FOR THE CHURCH
ACTS 5:12-16

So the churches were strengthened in the faith
and grew daily in number.  (NIV)

Acts 16:5

Today’s texts permit us to reaffirm the great role played by the Christian church since its origins. Especially on this day in which we celebrate the anniversary of the National Union of Presbyterian Women, we stress the work developed by them in our communities of faith and in our society.

But if the church of the New Testament had been perfect there wouldn’t have been the necessity of writing letters, whose objective was the correction of its defects. The existence of the epistles is in itself clear evidence of the limitations and the errors of the communities to whom they were directed.

For example: in the Corinthian church we can distinguish situations of conflict such as divisions (first Corinthians 1:10), idolatries, as well as doctrinal confusions (first Corinthians 10:7–22). Many of us ask if we have fallen in some of these same errors. But the Lord has promised not only to work in his church now, but also to perfect it and one day to complete that work. We should take inspiration from those texts and fight against any deformation of the church now, working constantly to reform it. Let us always remember that we are “the reformed church always reforming itself.”

Prayer:  Lord, make us open of mind, humble of heart and simple in daily life. Let us recognize our errors so that we can correct them, and to thus be a community that renews itself every day with your Spirit’s guidance. Amen.

LUCHANDO POR LA IGLESIA
HECHOS 5:12-16

WHEN THE WIND BLOWS
MATTHEW 25: 1-13

Therefore keep watch,
for you do not know the day or the hour
the Son of Man will return.
Matthew 25: 13

Some years back a landowner went searching for workers. But he received many rejections, since people refused this work because they were afraid of the horrible storms of that region. Finally a short and slender man of middle age came soliciting the work. The land owner asked him if he was a good laborer, to which the man replied, “I can sleep when the wind blows.” Largely confused by the answer, but desperate for the help, the landowner contracted him.

One night the wind blew noisily. The landowner jumped from his bed, grabbed the lamp and ran to the employee’s lodging. He shook the man who was sleeping and shouted at him, “Get up! A storm is coming. Batten down things before they’re blown away.” The man turned over in bed and answered him, “Sir, I already told you I can sleep when the wind blows.” Infuriated by his reply, the landowner was tempted to immediately fire him; but instead of that he hurried to leave and prepare the area for the storm. But to his astonishment he found that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins, firmly tied to the ground. The cows were well protected in the barn, the chickens in the hen house, and all the doors were closed and secured. Everything was secured; nothing could be dragged away.

When we find ourselves spiritually and mentally prepared, we have nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the wind blows?

Prayer: Prepare me, Lord, spiritually and mentally for each thing that life presents. May I be able to remain tranquil when the winds of the storm blow, knowing that there is nothing I need to fear. Amen.

CUANDO EL VIENTO SOPLA
MATEO 25: 1-13
