THE BIBLE

PSALM 121

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Psalm 23:1 (NRSV)

The difficult situations that we encounter make us look for orientation in various places, which allows us to do things differently, but does not always result in the most successful path. We seek a friend’s counsel or a psychologist’s help to find what we consider to be the best solutions. Unfortunately, we forget the best place to find our response to these situations: the Bible. 

God inspired many men and women in the history of Israel to testify to what had happened in their lives and how God changed each one and transformed them into people of faith, people obedient to God’s words. God wanted each one to be his follower, and revealed himself in a simple human being who taught us how we should live each day. 

Today I want to invite you to continue this search not in the horoscope, not in someone who came to read your fortune in your hands, or in a letter.  There is no other place except the Bible. This is the right place to find true words of encouragement when we are troubled, to find happiness in the midst of sorrows, peace in the midst of desperation, or inspiration of the Holy Spirit to continue our paths with the certainty that God himself and his Son Jesus walk alongside us. Our kind and merciful God offers us, in addition to other resources like prayer which is very powerful, this marvelous book that is the best and truthful written teaching that we could ever find.

Let’s not fail to take advantage of it; let’s care for it and not fail to use it for personal and community growth. And as we scrutinize it, let’s hold on to what is just, noble, humble and the true love that we need to move ahead and look with new eyes at those around us and at the future. Let’s continue studying it, let’s continue growing and believing in this word that comes from God which we have received by grace. Let’s not forget that there are others near to us who wait for us to show it to them. Certainly, if we used it day by day, the world would be different.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for this powerful tool that we have in the Bible. Permit us to make good use of it and to not forget it, closed up in drawers. Amen.

SALMO 121

El Señor es mi Pastor nada me faltará…

Salmo 23:1

Las situaciones difíciles que atravesamos nos hacen buscar orientación en determinados sitios, que si bien nos permite darle otro rumbo a las cosas, no siempre resulta el camino más acertado. Buscamos en el consejo de un amigo, o la ayuda de algún psicólogo, las soluciones más adecuadas, a nuestro juicio. Sin embargo, olvidamos el mejor lugar donde encontrar las respuestas a estas situaciones: La Biblia.

Dios inspiró a muchos hombres y mujeres de la historia de Israel a testimoniar lo que ocurría en sus vidas y cómo él cambiaba a cada uno en la medida que se convertían en personas fieles y obedientes a sus palabras. Quiso Dios que cada uno fuera un seguidor suyo, y se reveló en un ser humano y sencillo que nos enseñó como deberíamos vivir cada día.

Hoy quiero invitarlos a continuar esta búsqueda no en el horóscopo, no en alguien que llegó y quiere leer la suerte en tus manos, o en una carta.  No existe otro lugar que no sea la Biblia. Este es el sitio adecuado para encontrar las verdaderas palabras de aliento cuando estamos turbados, encontrar alegrías en medio de las tristezas, la paz en medio de la desesperación, o la inspiración del Espíritu Santo para continuar nuestros caminos con la certeza de que a nuestro lado camina Dios mismo y su Hijo Jesús. Nuestro Dios bondadoso y misericordioso nos ofrece, además de otros recursos como la oración que es muy poderosa, este maravilloso libro que es la mejor y verdadera enseñanza escrita que podemos encontrar en todos los tiempos.

No la desaprovechemos, cuidemos de ella; pero sobre todas las cosas, usémosla para el crecimiento personal y comunitario. Y al escudriñarla retengamos de ella lo justo, lo noble, lo humilde y el verdadero amor que necesitamos para continuar adelante y mirar con otros ojos a los que nos rodean y al futuro.  Sigamos estudiando, sigamos creciendo y creyendo en esa palabra que viene de Dios y que por gracia recibimos. No olvidemos que a nuestro lado otros esperan que se la mostremos. De seguro si la usáramos día a día el mundo sería diferente.

Oración: Gracias Señor, por esa herramienta tan poderosa que tenemos en la Biblia. Permite que hagamos buen uso de ella y que no la olvidemos encerrada en los cajones. Amén.
