ONLY LOVE

JOHN 3: 16-21

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men…”

Colossians 3:23

I would like to begin this meditation by sharing a few verses of a song that I like very much, by the Cuban singer Silvio Rodríguez:

You need to love; in your hands lies the clay.

You need to love; with craziness or otherwise,

Don’t take it on, for it will be in vain.

Love alone lights up what endures

Love alone creates a miracle from the clay.

This song invites us to put love into everything we do. This is what the biblical text means when we are exhorted to work for God and not for human beings.  Let us rid ourselves of all apathy and frigidity in our relationships and in our daily tasks.  If God loved us first and showed us this love through His Son Jesus Christ, let us learn to share this love in our daily deeds.

Let us put faith and heart into everything that God gives us to do.  This way alone will the clay take shape in our hands.

Prayer: Thank you, God of history, for your eternal mercy; thank you for pouring your love over us and thank you that we are like that clay that turns into a miracle in your hands. Amen.

“Y todo lo que hagan, háganlo de corazón,

como para el Señor  y no como para la gente

Colosenses  3:23

Deseo comenzar esta meditación compartiéndoles algunos fragmentos de una canción que me gusta muchísimo del cantautor cubano Silvio Rodríguez:

Debes amar, la arcilla que va en tus manos.

Debes amar, la arena hasta la locura y si no,

no la emprendas, que será en vano.

Solo el amor alumbra lo que perdura

Solo el amor convierte en milagro el barro

Esta canción nos invita a poner amor en todo lo que hacemos. De eso se trata cuando en el texto bíblico se nos exhorta a trabajar para Dios y no para los seres humanos. Despojémonos de toda apatía y frialdad en nuestras relaciones y en nuestro trabajo diario. Si Dios nos amó primero y nos mostró ese amor a través de su Hijo Jesucristo, aprendamos a compartir ese amor en nuestra faena diaria.

Pongamos fe y corazón en todas las cosas que Dios nos propone para hacer. Solo así la arcilla tomará forma en nuestras manos.

Oración: Gracias Dios de la historia, por tu misericordia eterna, gracias porque has derramado tu amor sobre nosotros y en tus manos somos como ese barro que se transforma en milagro. Amén.
