THE VALUE OF VOLUNTEERISM

1 PETER 5:1-6

“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.”

1Peter 5: 2

I heard someone say recently that volunteerism is in crisis. Some people first verify how much money they will receive for their services before they do any work.  It’s true that we need the money to feed ourselves, but the question is whether we make it the center of our motivations and efforts.

I understand that there are many people in the world who do their jobs daily without receiving adequate pay and that is not right, but I am referring to each one of us who has had the experience of lending a service without expecting any recompense other than the immense pleasure of helping people or serving another.

The service that one lends or the work that one does voluntarily is praiseworthy!

A volunteer’s prayer: Thank you, Lord, for having called me to serve as a volunteer, to give of my time, my energies and my love to those who suffer.  I am here, Lord, send me.  Make my mind and my heart willing to listen without prejudice, to serve regardless of the consequences. Amen.

EL VALOR DEL VOLUNTARIADO

1 PEDRO  5:1-6

“Cuiden de la grey de Dios, que está bajo su cuidado.

Pero háganlo de manera voluntaria y con el deseo de servir,

y no por obligación, ni por el mero afán de lucro”

1Pedro 5: 2

Escuché a alguien decir recientemente que el voluntariado está en crisis. Algunas personas antes de realizar una tarea verifican primeramente cuánto dinero percibirán por sus servicios.

En verdad necesitamos el dinero para alimentarnos, vestirnos, calzarnos. En fin, es imposible subsistir en el mundo moderno sin dinero, pero lo cuestionable es convertirlo en el centro de nuestras motivaciones y esfuerzos.

Comprendo que en el mundo muchas personas hacen su trabajo diariamente sin recibir el salario adecuado y esto no es justo, pero más bien me refiero a que cada uno de nosotros ha experimentado la experiencia de prestar un servicio sin que medie otra recompensa que el placer inmenso de ayudar a las personas o servir al prójimo.

¡Es loable el servicio que se presta o la labor que se realiza de manera voluntaria!

Oración del voluntariado: Gracias, Señor, por haberme llamado a servir gratuitamente, a dar mi tiempo, mis energías y mi amor a quienes sufren. Aquí estoy, Señor, envíame. Dispón mi mente y mi corazón a escuchar sin perjuicios, a servir hasta las últimas consecuencias. Amén.
