DIFFICULT QUESTIONS

MARK 4:35-41

“Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion.  The disciples woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’”

                                        Mark 4:38

One may well ask oneself if it is a blessing or a curse to have a mind that will not calm down.  At shielded moments during a supposed act of obedience to God, we lose the marvelous opportunity to become worried and to ask the Lord about so many situations which wound and make this world a place of injustice.  I therefore encourage you, during your quiet times of prayer, to inquire of God concerning:  children who hunger, war, Christians who are victims of injustice because of their faith, epidemics that devastate the world…these are all difficult questions.  Questions that the disciples perhaps asked in the midst of the storm.

The holy text picks up only one of these difficult questions asked by the disciples: “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

Then Jesus, as he often did, responded with a new question: “Why are you so afraid?  Do you still have no faith?”

The biblical passage finally throws out one last question:  “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Before we ask such difficult questions, one question should prevail: In what God have we believed?  The answer will help us to strengthen our faith and to testify to his miracles in our lives.

Prayer: Lord, grant that we may always seek your light in the midst of darkness. May our difficult questions lead to a stronger faith in you. Amen.

PREGUNTAS DIFÍCILES

MARCOS 4: 35-41

“Jesús estaba en la popa y dormía sobre una almohada.

Lo despertaron y le dijeron: ¡Maestro! ¿Acaso

no te importa que estamos por naufragar?”

                                        1 Timoteo 2:1

Uno  se pregunta si es una bendición o una maldición tener una mente que no se aquieta. En ocasiones escudados en una supuesta conducta de obediencia a Dios, perdemos la oportunidad maravillosa de inquietarnos y preguntar al Señor ante tantas situaciones que laceran y hacen de este mundo un lugar de injusticia. Por eso te animo a que en tus momentos de quietud y oración a Dios seas capaz de preguntar sobre: los niños hambrientos, las guerras, las personas cristianas que por su fe son víctimas de la injusticia o por las epidemias que azoten al mundo… Son todas, preguntas difíciles. Preguntas que quizás los discípulos hicieron en medio de la tormenta. El texto sagrado solo recoge una de estas preguntas difíciles hechas por los discípulos: “¡Maestro!, ¿Acaso no te importa que estamos por naufragar?”

Entonces Jesús, como solía hacer, respondió con una nueva pregunta: “¿Por qué tienen tanto miedo? ¿Cómo es que no tienen fe?

Finalmente el texto nos lanza una última pregunta “¿Quién es éste que hasta el viento y las aguas le obedecen?”

Ante tantas preguntas difíciles una pregunta debe prevalecer ¿En qué Dios hemos creído? La respuesta nos ayudará a fortalecer nuestra fe y a testificar de sus milagros en nuestras vidas.

Oración: Señor, permítenos buscar siempre tus luces en medio de la oscuridad. Que nuestras preguntas difíciles encuentren una fe fortalecida en ti Amén.
