Tuesday, January 14- Anniversary of the Church in La Fernanda NEVER AGAIN ALONE

Tuesday, January 14

Anniversary of the Church in La Fernanda
NEVER AGAIN ALONE
JOHN 3:16-21
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

I have a co-worker whose husband is a merchant marine. Each time he returns from a long trip, it is interesting to hear about his experiences on his journey and the details of the cities he visited, but he always insists that he experienced terrible loneliness during those many months away from his family. How often we feel alone in life!  On many occasions, even with my feet firmly planted on the ground and without navigating through lonely oceans, we have felt alone.  Jesus Christ also felt lonesome, when he prayed alone in Gethsemane, when he stood alone before Pontius Pilate, when he was taken alone to Calvary; but in the midst of so much solitude, that cry was heard: “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”  The humanization of the Son of God offers the certainty that we shall never again be alone.  Someone is with us; with utmost confidence, there is hope for those who are sure of his promises. By our side marches someone, unseen by our eyes but with the conviction in our hearts that we do not walk alone.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for always being by our side.  Amen.

NUNCA MÁS SOLOS
JUAN 3:16-21

Monday, January 13- WITH GOD WE WILL SEE THE LIGHT

Monday, January 13
WITH GOD WE WILL SEE THE LIGHT
MATTHEW 19:16-30
“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26
On various occasions we have seen people who have been suffering for years from their illness, and who suffer even more because they have no hope of recovering their health.  This situation is comparable to finding ourselves in a large tunnel from which it is difficult for us to find an exit.
Our life is a tunnel; although at certain times we cannot see our way out, after a time we see [the proverbial] light…and ultimately we are able to exit the tunnel.
We may feel discouraged and sad; it may seem that our problems have no solution.  But when we look towards Christ and feel his presence, we discover that a shining light may guide us each day until we reach the end of the tunnel. If we persevere in our faith in God, in the end, after difficult hours, He will lead us to his glory and light.

Prayer: Lord, we know that there are difficulties in our lives, but in You we find salvation.  Show us your light [and…] this day.  Amen.

CON DIOS VEREMOS LA LUZ
MATEO 19:16-30

Sunday, January 12- The Lord’s Baptism: A New Birth

Sunday, January 12
The Lord’s Baptism
 A NEW BIRTH
MATTHEW 3:13-17
“And the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:6b
The feast of the baptism of Jesus marks the close of the period from Christmas to the Epiphany, during which we celebrate the incarnation of God and his manifestation in Christ.  In the episode at the River Jordan, the voice of the Father is heard proclaiming that Jesus is His beloved son.  The baptism of Jesus signaled his recognition as the one sent by the Father to announce the good news of the kingdom of God. It was also the manifestation of his divine relationship, the beginning of his public ministry, the proclamation of a new loyalty, a new love, and a new law.  This date is a good occasion to remember our own baptism.  Those of us who have been baptized should show that we are sons and daughters of God in all circumstances. We have been anointed with a new spirit in order that we may live a life of light in the midst of darkness, fighting against the establishments of injustice, tirelessly seeking universal brotherhood, and building the future of a new history.  Through our baptism we give public testimony to a new birth, in which we have become faithful followers of Jesus.

Prayer: Holy God, help those of us who have been baptized in your name to never depart from you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Saturday, January 11- LET US BUILD ON A FIRM ROCK

Saturday, January 11

LET US BUILD ON A FIRM ROCK
1 CORINTHIANS 3:10-15
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 3:11
A preacher once illustrated his sermon with the cute children’s story of the Three Little Pigs. He told his congregation that the three pigs each chose to build their houses from different materials: One of them, foolishly, built it out of straw; another pig put a bit more thought into it and used wood; but the third one, with the greatest care of all, built his house out of bricks.  When the wolf came around looking to devour the pigs, the third house, built with great care and solidity, was the only one to withstand his brutal attacks.  The pastor was able to duly impress his congregation with the following reflections:  “How many of us would have been like the first pig, acting out of laziness and indifference?  How many of us would be like the second pig, who exerted himself a bit more, but without overly concerning himself for the security of his home?  Perhaps few of us would have been like the third pig, determined to build a solid spiritual life. Are we determined to build our lives upon the firm rock which is Christ?”
Prayer: Father, help us in our walk here on earth; show us how to build upon solid rock. Amen.

 EDIFIQUEMOS SOBRE ROCA FIRME
1 CORINTIOS 3:10-15

Friday, January 10- LET US BE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST

Friday, January 10

LET US BE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST
MATTHEW 10:1-15
“He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.”
Matthew 10:1
When our Lord Jesus Christ began his Ministry, he called his disciples so that they could collaborate with Him in the great work that the Father had placed in his hands. Christ trusted in the abilities they had to learn and in their sense of responsibility towards their service. Today we are the ones called to serve Him.  In the midst of a world of selfishness and evil, humanity’s future depends on brotherly love, on service to one another, on sympathy and deep understanding for others. We do not all have the privilege of presenting an eloquent message or of rendering service within a missionary field, but we have the ability to give testimony in our daily lives, in our homes, in our streets, at our jobs, and among our neighbors. The love of God in our hearts exercises an influence of understanding and faith in others. The Lord calls us and enables us for the edification of his Kingdom. Let us be disciples of Christ!

Prayer: Jesus, today we are your disciples. Show us the way of love. Amen.

SEAMOS DISCIPULOS DE CRISTO
MATEO 10:1-15
toda enfermedad y toda dolencia”
Mateo 10:1

Thursday, January 9- A SOURCE OF INEXHAUSTIBLE STRENGTH

Thursday, January 9

 A SOURCE OF INEXHAUSTIBLE STRENGTH
PSALM 94
“But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.”
Psalm 94:22
Oftentimes we find ourselves suffering from a kind of anxiety that we attribute to the exhaustion of our daily struggles, to our work, to the problems and personal relations with those who surround us, or to anything else that implies effort or entails danger. But if we take a close look at that feeling of anxiety, we will arrive at the conclusion that it is due to our lack of inner strength to confront life’s poundings. We should trust in God and devote more time to prayer, and thus we will find the inexhaustible source of strength. God constantly provides us with his presence, which upholds us and gives us strength in the midst of our difficulties, no matter how great they are. There are so many people who desperately rely on medications for their nerves or who visit psychiatrists in order to resolve their issues!  Let us turn our eyes to the Lord. He will give us the strength that we need to survive and He will give us the inner peace that He alone and no one else can provide.
Prayer: Oh, Lord, when despair preys upon my heart:  listen to me, answer me, and give me the strength that I need. Amen.

 FUENTE INAGOTABLE DE FORTALEZA
SALMO 94
“Mas Jehová  me ha sido por refugio,
y mi Dios por roca de confianza”
Salmo 94:22

Wednesday, January 8- Anniversary of the Church in Taguasco

Wednesday, January 8

Anniversary of the Church in Taguasco
A BASKET OF RIPE FRUIT
AMOS 8:1-3
“Then the Lord said to me, ‘The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.”
Amos 8: 2
I knew a father, an upstanding and moral man, whose behavior was honest from every point of view.  One of his sons, however, had a totally contrasting behavior.   The father loved him very much and had great compassion towards him.  He would therefore rescue his son from the difficult situations into which he got himself. The years passed and the father continued to bear the complaints and criticisms of all the people who were affected.  One day the son was imprisoned for having stolen from where he worked. The father could have done something to prevent the sentence, but he did not.  He suffered bitterly, but he understood that it was even more harmful to his son if he went on protecting him.  Sure enough, the son served his sentence, which taught him a lesson and put him on the right track. The Lord forgives our sins, but we could fall into the temptation to “abuse” God’s forgiveness.  We need to remember the “basket of ripe fruit” from the Book of Amos, so that the Lord does not say to us:  “The time is ripe for you. I will spare you no longer.”

Prayer: Lord, allow our maturity to help us to assume responsibility for our actions.  Help us to avoid sin.  Amen.

Aniversario de la Iglesia en Taguasco
LA CESTA DE FRUTAS MADURAS
AMOS 8:1-3
