 Anniversary of the Church in Taguasco

A BASKET OF RIPE FRUIT

AMOS 8:1-3

“Then the Lord said to me, ‘The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.”

Amos 8: 2

I knew a father, an upstanding and moral man, whose behavior was honest from every point of view.  One of his sons, however, had a totally contrasting behavior.   The father loved him very much and had great compassion towards him.  He would therefore rescue his son from the difficult situations into which he got himself. The years passed and the father continued to bear the complaints and criticisms of all the people who were affected.  One day the son was imprisoned for having stolen from where he worked. The father could have done something to prevent the sentence, but he did not.  He suffered bitterly, but he understood that it was even more harmful to his son if he went on protecting him.  Sure enough, the son served his sentence, which taught him a lesson and put him on the right track. The Lord forgives our sins, but we could fall into the temptation to “abuse” God’s forgiveness.  We need to remember the “basket of ripe fruit” from the Book of Amos, so that the Lord does not say to us:  “The time is ripe for you. I will spare you no longer.”

Prayer: Lord, allow our maturity to help us to assume responsibility for our actions.  Help us to avoid sin.  Amen.

LA CESTA DE FRUTAS MADURAS

AMOS 8:1-3

“… y me dijo Jehová : Ha venido el fin 

sobre mi pueblo Israel; no lo toleraré más”

Amós 8: 2

Conocí a un padre, hombre de mucha moral, cuyo comportamiento era honesto desde todo punto de vista. Pero uno de sus hijos tenía una conducta totalmente contraria. El padre le quería mucho y sentía por él una gran compasión. Por eso siempre lo sacaba de las situaciones embarazosas en que se metía. Pasaban los años y el padre continuaba sufriendo las quejas y las críticas de todas las personas afectadas. Un día lo encarcelaron por robar donde trabajaba. El padre pudo haber evitado la condena, pero no lo hizo. Sufrió amargamente, pero comprendió que perjudicaba más a su hijo si continuaba protegiéndolo. Efectivamente, el joven cumplió su condena, que le sirvió de lección y tomó un buen camino. El Señor perdona nuestros pecados, pero pudiéramos caer en la tentación de “abusar” del perdón de Dios.  Debemos recordar la “cesta de frutas maduras” del libro de Amós, no vaya a ser que el Señor nos diga: “Ya estás  maduro. No te perdonaré más”.

Oración: Señor, permite que nuestra madurez nos capacite para ser responsables de nuestros actos.  Ayúdanos a evitar  el pecado. Amén.
