DIVINE BLESSINGS
NUMBERS 6:24-26

May the Lord bless and keep you
Numbers 6:24

Despite the increase of violence in many of the world’s countries (you only need to only look at the daily news), in our country we enjoy a relatively peaceful environment, since the authorities strive to have the public order respected.

This may make us forget that we need the help of God’s grace to live in this world. Also, the material peace that some of us enjoy perhaps makes us forget that we’re in need of God today more than ever. If we realized this more acutely we would more forcibly feel the need to appeal to the grace of God. He will protect us in our contact with this world; especially to discern and refuse those temptations which intend to ensnare us, as if we were trapped in a net.

When our sons and daughters leave for school, work, or the university in the morning, so we consider the pressures to which they are subjected, or what temptations they confront? Fortunately, we can ask for divine protection for them as well as for ourselves, confident that God protects and enlightens them, and gives them peace.

Implore the Lord for his divine blessing for our lives, our family, our church and country, and our entire world.

Prayer:  Bless and keep our children and youth in your holy light and in your commandments. Amen.

BENDICIONES DIVINAS
NUMEROS 6:24-26

ONLY ONE LIFE FOR SERVING THE LORD
1 SAMUEL 9:27

Jesus said to him, follow me.
John 21:22

Nowadays it is a common thing for a person to begin a new profession after having worked for many years in another. But in our Christian career, when we come to the end of our lives and realize that we have neglected the task of serving the Lord, we don’t have the possibility of starting over again, and so we feel remorse when we take stock of the passed years.

The Lord does not entrust the same service to all believers; he distributes them wholly according to his will. Not everyone receives a capacity of service of the same magnitude from him; but although it may be the smallest and most humble, one has the duty of being a faithful witness wherever one finds oneself. We’re not dealing with a job that we should complete out of obligation, but of a vision, perhaps unclear, that the Lord asks us to complete for Him with joy, today and all the days until his return.

Will we allow the days, the months, and the years to pass while worrying about nothing more than assuring our comforts, instead of responding to the calls of our Master so that we might follow and serve him?

As disciples of the Lord, today we should also reflect upon what he expects from each of us:   humbly serve him, and with love, in whatever service He may have entrusted to us.

Prayer:  Thank you, my good God, for being able to serve you. Thank you for the opportunity you give us to work for you. Amen.

Aniversario de la Iglesia  “Dora Valentín” (Varadero)

SOLO UNA VIDA PARA SERVIR AL SEÑOR
1 SAMUEL 9:27

Jesús  le dijo: … Sígueme tú
Juan 21:22

Monday, September 26 A PAUSE IN THE MUSIC ROMANS 8:24-32

Monday, September 26
A PAUSE IN THE MUSIC
ROMANS 8:24-32

And we know that in all things
God works for the good of those who love him,
who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28

Whether or not we are aware of it, we are constantly observed with love by a wise and all-powerful God. Nothing escapes his attention. He can utilize everything, the good as much as the bad, for the good of his sons and daughters. This not only gives us great confidence but also permits us to thank God, even when we don’t understand the ends toward which He works.

I once read the following reflection: “God’s plan forgets nothing. Everything works for the good, including the trials with which we become impatient. The storms which threaten to topple the trees in truth serve to plant their roots more firmly and deeply in the ground. The hammered blows that made the steel brittle – as it was believed – to the contrary allowed it to withstand a measure of tempering that increases its solidity and resistance.

For example, the obligatory period rest because of an illness or through lack of work is compared to a pause in the music.  This interval between the notes isn’t an end of the melody; rather it forms a part of it. Does your walk seem gloomy to you? Don’t forget that if you love the Lord, all things, including the least agreeable, work together for the better.

May we know how to accept, without complaining, all the circumstances that God allows, even the things far beyond our control, such as the weather, the climate, and the character of those around us.

Prayer:  Thank you, my God, for your eternal company. I give you thanks especially today for this meditation, for these words which quiet me and make me trust in your promises more each day. In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

PAUSA EN LA MÚSICA
ROMANOS 8:24-32

Sabemos que los que aman a Dios,
todas las cosas les ayudan a bien
Romanos 8:28

Sunday, September 25 POISONOUS SNAKES HEBREWS 3:13

Sunday, September 25
POISONOUS SNAKES
HEBREWS 3:13

For this is not your resting place,
because it is defiled, it is ruined beyond all remedy.
Micah 2:10

A friend who returned from working in another country told me how that place was infested with poisonous snakes. To protect oneself from them one had to always be cautious. No one should lie in the shade of a bush or a rock without having previously checked to determine that no snakes were present.

We should deal with sin in the same way. It’s always present. On earth we can never completely avoid it. It appears in multiple forms, as much inside as outside of us. We are exposed to them every second. We should ask the Lord to guide our lives and show us the things that dishonor Him, and thus, when we’re aware that we have sinned we should immediately confess ourselves before God, praying for His assistance to not sin again, and also His forgiveness.

Confession also implies transformation. It’s not enough to recognize the evil we’ve done before God; we must also hold to the powerful conviction, desire, and attitude to avoid repeating our sinful behavior because “old things have passed away. Behold, all is made new.”

Only then will we be able to live a life that is pleasing, a life not just content with avoiding evil, but one that finds joy in seeking the good and in accomplishing it for the love of God and of our neighbor.

Prayer:  Lord, today we ask for reconciliation and forgiveness. Many are the errors we commit each day. Help us to remove ourselves from all that hurts or damages your creation. Let us constantly be revising our actions, our words, so that everything we may do or say glorifies you. Renew us in pursuit of you.  Amen.

SERPIENTES VENENOSAS
HEBREOS 3:13

No es este el lugar del reposo,
pues está contaminado, corrompido grandemente
Miqueas 2:10

Saturday, September 24 HOW DO YOU LIVE? HOW DO YOU PRAY? PHILIPPIANS 4:6-8

Saturday, September 24
HOW DO YOU LIVE? HOW DO YOU PRAY?
PHILIPPIANS 4:6-8

Do not be anxious about anything,
but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6

When I’m troubled and my prayers become groans, God is present. In his grandeur, in his faithful love, He waits for me to accept him once again as the supreme authority of my life, and that I humbly recognize that He, only He, has charge over his creatures and over their destinies.

For all those who live wrapped-up in themselves and their own problems, for those whose anxiety gnaws away at them and whom the mornings frighten, they should trust that God is our Creator, our Father, our Sovereign, and our Pastor. He is also the energy that can pull anyone from the depths of anxiety, provided that one decides to take advantage of that source of tenderness.

To have God and Jesus as the center of our lives is to begin living in peace with others and with oneself. It gives us the ability to pray, to work, to live with joy and hope every morning, even though these may bring us problems, anxieties, and worries.

Prayer:  Lord, overcome all my problems, even the most important. I know that despite my selfishness, they are in your control. Teach me to yield and to place my trust entirely on you and on the redeeming work of the cross. Amen.

¿CÓMO VIVES, CÓMO ORAS?
FILIPENSES 4:6-8

Friday, September 23 THE TWO OARS 1 THESSALONIANS 4:10-11

Friday, September 23
THE TWO OARS
1 THESSALONIANS 4:10-11

For we are God’s handiwork,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10

A certain story tells about a man who wanted to go out on a boat for the day; he observed that the oars used by the boatman had a name inscribed on each one. One said, “Pray,” and the other “Work.” He then asked what that meant, and the boatman answered, “I’ll show you in a second.” He began rowing with only the one that said Pray, and the boat began to do circles without advancing. Afterwards, he took only the one that said Work, and the same thing happened. Finally, he employed both oars and the boat moved ahead.

“Did you understand?” said the boatman. “Yes,” replied the man, “I understood that prayer without work, or work without prayer cannot achieve the goal.”

This story contains a very important teaching. At times we are not willing to use more than one oar. We pray for the solution of the problems that surround us, but we don’t take advantage of the opportunities the Lord places in our path to work out those solutions. At times we pray for our sons and daughters and neglect to educate them in the way of the Lord; alternatively, we work with determination on the church’s projects without fervently asking for God’s blessing upon the service that He placed before us.

Pray and Work: May this be our slogan.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for your message today. Help us to work without ceasing to pray, and also to accompany our prayer with opportune and sacrificial work. Amen.

LOS DOS REMOS
1 TESALONISENSES 4:10-11

Thursday, September 22 PUTTING AWAY THE SUNDAY CLOTHING JAMES: 23-24

Thursday, September 22
PUTTING AWAY THE SUNDAY CLOTHING
JAMES: 23-24

...and after looking at himself, goes away
and immediately forgets what he looks like.
James 1:24

One Sunday, after having preached in my church, my pastor prayed in a way that started me seriously reflecting about the behavior we assume when we believers leave worship on Sundays. He prayed saying, “May the good words we’ve just heard not have the same fate as the clothes I’m wearing, those that I’m going to put away until next Sunday. On the contrary, let your truth penetrate our hearts and remain indelible until the last day we are granted.”

Isn’t this a truth for many of us? We listen to the Word, and are moved by it – still seated in the pews of our churches – and make good resolutions; but as soon as we leave, we return to the trappings of our daily lives like a gearbox, without allotting any space to that secret meditation, nor to the prayer that asks God to open our eyes so that we might see the wonders of his Word.

Let us not content ourselves, forgetful listeners, with being or seeming to be Christians only for a moment, such as on Sundays. What are we, or, what do we seem to be the rest of the week in our daily lives: at home, at school, at work or in the neighborhood?

Prayer:  Lord, may it be that after leaving worship we have internalized your teachings in such a way that we practice them the rest of the week. Amen.

GUARDANDO LA ROPA DE LOS DOMINGOS
SANTIAGO 1:23-24
