THE GREATNESS OF THE BEAUTY CREATED BY GOD
NEHEMIAH 9:6

My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.
Exodus 33:14 (NRSV)
I recently took an airplane trip to the eastern region of the country for reasons connected to work. I tried to locate myself in a good position next to a window with excellent visibility, and during the whole trip, I looked out ecstatically over the wonderful landscape that was offered to my eyes. The steep mountains, the soft and green plains, the calm and bluish waters of the ocean, unforgettable images that overwhelmed me and made me think about the immensity of God creating so much beauty.
How often, absorbed by our daily complexities and selfishness, we stop seeing the Creator face to face, or simply turn away from him! God made the heavens, the earth, the seas and all that they contain in order that we might remember and recognize that He is the Lord and no one else.
Let’s stop today to see where He is; silently and humbly let us look at Him face to face and give thanks for all the work of his hands, so that our hearts may be filled with power and we may admire his unparalleled greatness.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for all the beauty you have created and which we have the possibility to enjoy. Amen.

FAITH PUT TO THE TEST
2 KINGS 4:4

... because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
James 1:3
There are times and places where we feel as if God has fenced us in with a mysterious wall and separates us from all help and the normal ways in which we do things. We see then that in this way God enfolds us to do something divine that is completely new and unexpected. In that secret place, God molds our lives and makes us direct our lives toward Him.
The lives of the greater part of religious people consist in a monotonous repetition of the same actions and things. This means that they can calculate almost everything that is going to happen to them, but those souls that God guides and encloses only with Him know only that God is with them, working in them, and as a result, they must put their hope solely in Him. It is the same as with this widow; sometimes God must shut the door in front of us so that he can talk with us, perhaps by means of pain and suffering. It is often like this and only like this that God can give us a precious secret.
God gives us the most marvelous revelations of himself amid grueling trials.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for my faith, even though it is very small. Allow me to understand that when doors close in my path it is for my own good.  Amen.

LA FE PUESTA A PRUEBA
2 REYES 4:4

KNOWING HOW TO LIVE WITH SUFFERING
RUTH 1:11-22

Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you!
Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge;
your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
Ruth 1:16 (NRSV)
People who are visited with affliction have two very different ways of reacting. One is easier and current: to remain immersed in their affliction, concentrating on it and with an almost morbid delight that leads to selfishness, keeping for themselves that which destroys and corrodes the entrails of the soul, manifesting itself in bitterness and outward reproach. This unconsciously selfish attitude deprives the holder of experiencing almost sublime feelings arising from the depths of sorrow and which enrich spiritual life.
Others, less frequent but with spontaneous generosity, convert their pain into an instrument of giving, because they know that the path to happiness is in cooperation and companionship. Ruth was one of this group, because with love, which led to sacrifice, she left her own country, placed the need of another person above her pain, and responded with loyalty.
What a noble attitude of a heart that offered itself with fortitude to the need that surrounded it, which shut its eyes to itself and gave itself totally for love! That was the decision in her life that drew her close to God and turns her into a lesson for us: the renewal of an anxious heart in the gift of love to others,

Prayer: My good God, help me when affliction comes to me. Be with me and protect me. Help me emerge from it trusting in your promise and giving myself to others in sacrifice and genuine love, just as your son Jesus did on the cross. Amen.

SABER VIVIR CON EL SUFRIMIENTO
RUT 1:11-22

¡No me pidas que te deje y que me separe de ti! Iré a donde tú vayas, y viviré donde tú vivas. Tu pueblo será mi pueblo y tu Dios será mi Dios.
Rut 1:16

Wednesday, October 3 HERE AM I, LORD EXODUS 3:1-14

Wednesday, October 3
HERE AM I, LORD
EXODUS 3:1-14

I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you
Exodus 3:12 (NRSV)
The apostle said rightly: To go in front of the others, it is necessary to see more than they can. In no other biblical person is this clearer than in the figure of Moses, the barefoot guide. The life of the great law-giver and head of Israel presents one of the most beautiful themes about which the pen of a biblical historian could write It is not possible to speak of the people of Israel and avoid the person of Moses.
God called Moses to serve him in a very simple manner, without the mediation of a prophetic offering or the self-aggrandizement of a human. Rather, his sincere confession that he was incapable of the work put into his hands, was a measure of humility. God called Moses to serve him, and Moses was brief in his response: Here am I.

On Horeb, the Mount of God, there began a glowing accomplishment which would only be eclipsed atop Mount Nebo when the work had been completed, when the mission had been fulfilled. They were hard years, but full of rich experiences; there were terrible trials, but in all of them they emerged victorious with the help of the one who went with him.
Today’s biblical passage raises the need to give an accounting of our attitude before God’s continuing call. Moses had many things to take precedence over God’s call. He had plenty of excuses that he had prepared to use as an argument to avoid the work, but God commanded him in his name and for his glory to carry out the work.
Perhaps today God is calling us as he did Moses to complete a work of love in the world. Let’s take off our sandals and imitate the barefoot guide, saying, Here am I.

Prayer: Here am I, Lord; I want to answer your call. Amen.

Oración: Heme aquí Señor, quiero responder a tu llamado. Amén.

Tuesday, October 2 DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD GENESIS 3

Tuesday, October 2
DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD
GENESIS 3

But Lot's wife, behind him, looked back,
and she became a pillar of salt
Genesis 19:26 (NRSV)
“Don’t take that knife or you’ll cut yourself,” I told my little son when he reached out his hand to take it. After a while he came running toward me crying and showing me a little finger covered with blood. When I turned my back, he disobeyed and took the knife. There in his little cut finger was the consequence of his disobedience.

Disobedience to God is the basic cause of our sins. The sin of our first parents was disobedience. As today’s text says, God warned them not to eat of the tree which was in the middle of the garden, but they disobeyed God and ate. As a result, they suffered for their disobedience, for their sin. In the same way, Lot’s wife, because of her disobedience, also suffered death. The Bible shows us many examples of people who, while believing in God, continued occasionally to disobey his teachings and alienate themselves from his love: Moses struck the rock, David commanded the death of Uriah the Hittite so that he could marry Bathsheba, Jonah didn’t follow the command to go to Nineveh. . . etc.
Let’s not blame God for our sufferings, sorrows, or unhappiness. If we search only a little bit, we will see that the root of all our ills is in our disobedience to God; that is our sin.

Prayer: Lord, thank you not only for your blessings but also for your reproaches and negations. Help me to understand that they are for my own good. Amen.

Monday, October 1 72nd Anniversary of the founding of the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Matanzas Day of the Elderly in Cuba PASSION FOR THE GOSPEL PHILIPPIANS 3:12-16

Day of the Elderly in Cuba

PASSION FOR THE GOSPEL
PHILIPPIANS 3:12-16

Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own;
but this one thing I do:
forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.
Philippians 3:13 (NRSV)

Generally, when we see people who accomplish important things, we can detect behind their accomplishments a living and almost contagious passion; whether in sports or in culture, when we see someone win an important prize, or in science the passion that drives someone to make an important discovery for humanity, etc. It was so with Paul after he came to know Christ who had captivated him. Paul knew that he was committed to the mission and, like a good sport, he gave everything to reach the goal without looking back. He tells us that if we also are to reach the goal, we must often forget our past successes and failures, our attainments and frustrations.
We must then call on all our energy and passion because that race which holds many obstacles is not a walk. But perhaps at this point, many will ask what is to be the goal. For me, it is coming to live that Kingdom of God which Christ announced. And we often speak of him as if he were something in the past. Christ didn’t speak of an easy path to the fullness of the kingdom, but that we must overcome many hurdles and obstacles, and that if we accomplish it, our prize will be very great.

Prayer: Lord, we thank you for older people who daily encourage us with their passion for your gospel. Encourage us to reach the great goal, leaving behind that which weighs and hinders us, as did those who founded the Evangelical Theological Seminary and those who continue to serve that institution today. May our journey be contagious to others, confident in your love and mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PASIÓN POR EL EVANGELIO
FILIPENSES 3:12-16

Hermanos, no digo que yo mismo lo haya alcanzado;

Introduction

Many people have the custom of turning on the radio or television early in the day so that they don’t feel alone; others like to read the news or prefer to go out into the street to feel participation in the social life.
Fortunately, there are also those who take time to read and meditate on God’s Word.

We know that there are many ways to draw close to the Word. Our devotional intends to be a tool which, by means of short reflections, encourages, accompanies, and helps to understand that God is revealed through his Word and the testimonies of brothers and sisters amid the concrete reality that touches our lives.
Especially in this quarter, we want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a new year filled with blessings.
