April 18, Monday SEEMINGLY IMPOSSIBLE ISAIAH 29:17-19

April 18, Monday
SEEMINGLY IMPOSSIBLE
ISAIAH 29:17-19
“For nothing is impossible with God.”
Luke 1:37

When the prophets thought and spoke about infertile fields and forests, they did so under the influence of their culture and within a context in which drought, heat and infertile ground were common. Arid and infertile zones were not used for harvesting or as pastures.  That is why, when the prophet Isaiah tells us that Lebanon is about to be turned into a fertile field, and when he also describes the signs with which God’s presence will manifest itself:  the deaf who hear, the blind who see, the oppressed who rejoice in the Lord, the poor who rejoice in the Holy One of Israel; such situations are linked to those that cannot be changed by humans and for which it is indispensable to depend upon God.

This is the way in which God comes into our lives; He oftentimes shows himself with great clarity in the midst of our difficulties and problems.  It is very important for us to understand that the Lord wants to come into our lives in order to show us that it is He who has the power; that He is the only one who can make happen what seems impossible to us.  Who other than God can turn our mourning into dance? Who can give meaning to the absurdity of our lives?  Who can turn the desert into fertile soil?  God alone.

Let’s reflect upon all that God has done for us!  Think about how God has delivered us and loved us!  How has God protected us?  How has He cared for us?

Prayer: Lord, give us the faith to be able to experience your signs of love in our lives. Amen.

PARECE IMPOSIBLE
ISAIAS  29:17-19

“¡Para Dios no hay nada imposible!”
Lucas 1:37

April 17, Sunday THEY WILL BE SHOWN MERCY JONAH 4:1-1

April 17, Sunday
THEY WILL BE SHOWN MERCY
JONAH 4:1-11

“Blessed are the merciful
for they will be shown mercy.”
Matthew 5:7

As mercy is shared, it multiplies itself. A potato cut into pieces, after being planted and cultivated, produces hundreds of tubers. A kernel of corn taken from its original refuge (the cob) can produce hundreds of kernels when it is sown.

In other words, mercy is not reproduced by spontaneous generation; it must be planted and cultivated. Mercy is compassion, and praiseworthy; pity is denigrating.

Jonah went out to preach about the destruction of Nineveh thinking that he was doing God’s will, without realizing that His mercy is always greater than His justice.

The time has come to set aside the message of destruction and to “adjust the ledger” and to try to be more merciful toward our neighbor.

No one is capable of giving what one does not possess.  Let us cultivate mercy in our hearts; let us practice it in our daily relationships.

Let us leave behind our destructive prejudices toward others; let us look at our neighbor and at strangers with eyes of love.

Let us not forget that “Jesus came to seek and to save what was lost.”(Luke 19:10)

Prayer: Lord, grant that the hope that Jesus came to give us life and life in abundance, may become a reality in our lives. Amen.

ALCANZARÁN MISERICORDIA
JONÁS 4:1-11

“Bienaventurados los misericordiosos,
porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia”
Mateo 5:7

April 16, Saturday THE GOOD SIDE OF SORROW Ecclesiastes 7:1-14

April 16, Saturday
THE GOOD SIDE OF SORROW
Ecclesiastes 7:1-14

“Sorrow is better than laughter because a sad face is good for the heart.”
Ecclesiastes 7:3

Sorrow can be good for the soul. It can reveal hidden depths within us and in God.  Sorrow makes us think seriously about ourselves. It makes us ponder our motivations, intentions, and interests.  We are able to know ourselves as never before.

Sorrow also helps us to see God as we have never seen him before.  In the midst of his terrible affliction, Job said: “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.”

Jesus, the perfect human being, is described as a “man of suffering,” someone who was intimately acquainted with affliction. It is difficult to imagine, but even the incarnate Son of God learned and grew through means of the pain he experienced.  When we think about His sorrow and about our own, we are able to better appreciate what God is trying to achieve in us through the affliction that we suffer.

The author of Ecclesiastes wrote: “Sorrow is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart.”  Those who deny sorrow and do not allow it to do its work, who trivialize it or try to shrug it away, are superficial and indifferent. They never understand themselves or others very well.  In fact, I believe that before God can really use us, we need to first learn to experience distress.

Prayer: We give you thanks, Lord, for sorrow.  Help us to take true advantage of it for our lives. Help us to understand that we can occasionally learn more from sorrow than from laughter. Amen.

April 15, Friday IF WE BELIEVE, WE WILL SEE HIS GLORY JOHN 11:25-44

April 15, Friday

IF WE BELIEVE, WE WILL SEE HIS GLORY
JOHN 11:25-44

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.’”
John 11:25

What a sad and holy moment: the death of a loved one! There are many rites that take place in our culture. After giving the final adios to that loved his friends and family proceed to the cemetery in silent procession. For Christian persons it’s common to offer a service where testimony to life and the resurrection is affirmed. Perhaps we may return one day to leave flowers and spend a bit of time remembering the glad moments shared with that person. Our loved one has died and cannot be brought back.

Jesus cried when he was before Lazarus’ tomb; yes, but he returned and commanded that the stone that was blocking the entrance be removed. Later, he exercised his power and ordered, “Lazarus, come out!”

Perhaps we may desire with all our heart to have the power to bring back a loved one, but if we spoke those orders nothing would happen. Nevertheless, we can remove the stone of depression that immobilizes us; we can remove the stone of lack of faith that impedes us from believing that Jesus is the resurrection and the life.

It’s always difficult for us to explain the resurrection, as it was perhaps for Martha and Mary, Lazarus’ sisters, at that moment. But this is because we cannot explain with reasoning something that we should believe by faith. Our loved one who has departed is with us yet in another way.  And only by hoping in Jesus, if we then believe, will we see his glory.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we ask that you give us strength when we lose our loved ones, and that we may always trust that we will be reunited after death when we are in your presence. Amen.

SI CREEMOS, VEREMOS SU GLORIA
JUAN 11:25-44

“Le dijo Jesús:-Yo soy la resurrección y la vida;

April 14, Thursday FOR TODAY IS SUFFICIENT MATTHEW 6:25-34

April 14, Thursday
FOR TODAY IS SUFFICIENT
MATTHEW 6:25-34

“But seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6:33

It may be that we begin each day either well or poorly. This day we’re living brings with it its own challenges – that is – its struggles, pains, and difficulties and emotions. The Lord knows this, and in his grace tells us that this is sufficient for us. We shouldn’t add to today’s challenges with those of tomorrow. On the contrary, we should try very hard not to worry beforehand.

God’s grace is sufficient for all situations in which the believer finds himself; it will give us the necessary strength to go forward today. Search for food and clothing is most natural. These things, of course, are necessary; but the worry they may cause us can separate us from the Lord. For that reason He asks that we not concern ourselves with those things, since if we are sons of our Celestial Father we will enjoy his faithful care. He knows what our needs are and he provides, at times using our work. Our life is the life of each day, and if we come to tomorrow, we will find what God will have faithfully prepared for us.

Are we happy with the necessities? This should satisfy us. God asks that our principal search be for his Kingdom and for righteousness. Let’s place our trust in the Lord for our daily needs and be calm with respect to tomorrow, not because we may have planned everything, but because we trust in our God.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for your constant promise of help, and for the strength that we can invariably find in you. Amen.

POR HOY ES SUFICIENTE
MATEO 6:25-34

SERVICE AND HOPE
I THESSALONIANS 1: 2-10

“For they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us.
They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus,
who rescues us from the coming wrath.”
I Thessalonians 1:9-10

The Christians of Thessalonica had only been converted for a short time, but the Apostle eulogized them. He testified to their work of love and of their constancy in hope. The whole region had heard it about them. Everyone knew that these people were busy serving God and awaiting Jesus’ return after having turned their backs on the idols who had previously directed their lives.

Service and hope form an inseparable part of the believer’s life. One is indispensable to the other.  We can only serve the Lord in a manner pleasing to him if we hope for the definitive establishment of his kingdom. But our hope needs to be active, since we know very well that our spirit and hearts cannot remain empty.

Let us get up every morning thinking about what we are charged with doing to be faithful collaborators of that kingdom that has already begun among us. This thought will sustain and motivate us in all our daily tasks. We will then not want to waste time, but rather use it to do all the work that pleases God.

Prayer:  My good God, help me to always be willing to work for you and for your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

SERVIR Y ESPERAR
I TESALONISENSES 1: 2-10

I Tesalonicenses 1:9-10

A MESSAGE FOR THE YOUTH
I PETER 4: 12-19

“But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ,
so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.”
I Peter 4:13

Those of you who have decided to respond to Lord Jesus’s call to follow him may perhaps feel chilliness on the part of some of your friends. Perhaps on occasion you feel alone; some make fun of you because you believe in Christ. When Jesus was on earth he was misunderstood, spurned and even hated for telling the truth. For the same reason, those who follow him today in many parts of the world at times feel misunderstood and despised, even up to the point of sacrificing their lives.

It’s not easy for anyone to be criticized or to be left aside, but in a certain sense those criticisms will be the test of the authenticity of the message we impart.

Be that as it may, upon committing ourselves to follow Jesus we will, at times, encounter tests, but we will also experience a measure of strength and of joy, renewed in our passing through them with God’s help. Don’t be discouraged; don’t abandon the way of faith. “Do not fear or be dismayed because the Lord your God will be with you wherever you may go.”

Prayer:  Hear our prayer today, beloved God. We pray especially for our youth, for their fears, their distress, and their dreams. Support them with your Word. Amen.

UN  MENSAJE PARA LOS JÓVENES
I PEDRO 4: 12-19

I Pedro 4:13
