THEY WILL BE SHOWN MERCY

JONAH 4:1-11

“Blessed are the merciful

for they will be shown mercy.”

Matthew 5:7

As mercy is shared, it multiplies itself. A potato cut into pieces, after being planted and cultivated, produces hundreds of tubers. A kernel of corn taken from its original refuge (the cob) can produce hundreds of kernels when it is sown.

In other words, mercy is not reproduced by spontaneous generation; it must be planted and cultivated. Mercy is compassion, and praiseworthy; pity is denigrating.

Jonah went out to preach about the destruction of Nineveh thinking that he was doing God’s will, without realizing that His mercy is always greater than His justice.

The time has come to set aside the message of destruction and to “adjust the ledger” and to try to be more merciful toward our neighbor.

No one is capable of giving what one does not possess.  Let us cultivate mercy in our hearts; let us practice it in our daily relationships.

Let us leave behind our destructive prejudices toward others; let us look at our neighbor and at strangers with eyes of love.

Let us not forget that “Jesus came to seek and to save what was lost.”(Luke 19:10)

Prayer: Lord, grant that the hope that Jesus came to give us life and life in abundance, may become a reality in our lives. Amen.

ALCANZARÁN MISERICORDIA

JONÁS 4:1-11

“Bienaventurados los misericordiosos,

porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia”

Mateo 5:7

La misericordia cuando se comparte, se multiplica. La papa dividida en pedazos, después de sembrada y cultivada,  da cientos de tubérculos. Un gramo de maíz sacado de su refugio inicial (la mazorca) cuando se siembra puede dar cientos de granos.

Dicho en otras palabras, la misericordia no se reproduce por generación espontánea, hay que sembrarla y cultivarla. La misericordia es compasión, que enaltece; la lástima denigra.

Jonás salió a predicar la destrucción de Nínive pensando que cumplía la voluntad de Dios, sin tomar en cuenta que Su misericordia es siempre mayor que Su justicia.

Es hora ya de dejar a un lado el mensaje de destrucción y “ajuste de cuenta” y tratar de ser más misericordioso para nuestro prójimo.

Nadie puede dar de lo que no tiene. Cultivemos misericordia en nuestro corazón, compartámosla en nuestras relaciones diarias. Dejemos atrás nuestros juicios destructivos hacia los demás, miremos a nuestro prójimo y al extraño con ojos de amor.

No olvidemos que “Jesús vino a buscar y salvar lo que se había perdido”.

Oración: Señor, que sea una realidad en nuestras vidas la esperanza de que Jesús vino a darnos vida, y vida en abundancia. Amén.
