SEEMINGLY IMPOSSIBLE

ISAIAH 29:17-19

“For nothing is impossible with God.”

Luke 1:37

When the prophets thought and spoke about infertile fields and forests, they did so under the influence of their culture and within a context in which drought, heat and infertile ground were common. Arid and infertile zones were not used for harvesting or as pastures.  That is why, when the prophet Isaiah tells us that Lebanon is about to be turned into a fertile field, and when he also describes the signs with which God’s presence will manifest itself:  the deaf who hear, the blind who see, the oppressed who rejoice in the Lord, the poor who rejoice in the Holy One of Israel; such situations are linked to those that cannot be changed by humans and for which it is indispensable to depend upon God.

This is the way in which God comes into our lives; He oftentimes shows himself with great clarity in the midst of our difficulties and problems.  It is very important for us to understand that the Lord wants to come into our lives in order to show us that it is He who has the power; that He is the only one who can make happen what seems impossible to us.  Who other than God can turn our mourning into dance? Who can give meaning to the absurdity of our lives?  Who can turn the desert into fertile soil?  God alone.

Let’s reflect upon all that God has done for us!  Think about how God has delivered us and loved us!  How has God protected us?  How has He cared for us? 

Prayer: Lord, give us the faith to be able to experience your signs of love in our lives. Amen.

ISAIAS  29:17-19

“¡Para Dios no hay nada imposible!”

Lucas 1:37

Cuando los profetas, bajo la influencia de su cultura, piensan y hablan de los campos fértiles y de los bosques, están haciéndolo desde un contexto en el que también era común la sequedad, el calor, y los terrenos infértiles. Con las zonas secas y estériles no se contaba para cosechas ni pastoreo. Por eso, cuando el profeta Isaías nos dice que el Líbano está a punto de convertirse en un campo fértil, y también describe los signos con los que la presencia de Dios se manifestará: los sordos que oyen, los ciegos que ven, los oprimidos que se alegran en el Señor, los pobres que se gozan en el Santo de Israel; está vinculando tales situaciones con aquellas que el ser humano no puede transformar y le es imprescindible depender de Dios.

Así es como Dios llega a nuestra vida; muchas veces se muestra con gran claridad en medio de nuestras dificultades y problemas. Es muy importante que comprendamos que el Señor quiere venir a nuestra vida para enseñarnos que él es el quien tiene el poder, que es el único que puede realizar lo que a nosotros nos parece imposible. ¿Quién si no Dios puede convertir nuestro lamento en danza, puede dar sentido a los absurdos de nuestra vida, puede convertir el desierto en tierra fértil? Solamente Dios.

Reflexionemos: ¡Cuánto ha hecho Dios por nosotros! ¿De dónde nos ha sacado? ¿Cómo nos ha amado? ¿Cómo nos ha protegido? ¿Cómo se ha fijado en nosotros?

Oración: Señor, danos fe para poder experimentar en nuestra vida las señales de tu amor. Amén.
