LOVE YOUR ENEMIEES

Luke 6:27-38

Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Luke 6:31 (NRSV)

            The essence of the Christian life is love, whose general principle appears in verse 31: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” That is more than simply don’t do to others what you would not have them do to you.

            This love is made real when we respond to injustice and personal insults not with vengeance or passive resistance, but with positive acts and “aggressions” of goodness, aimed at redeeming the aggressors. Loving that which is not lovable is to renounce the egotistic love of the world; it is speaking Christ’s love to people who apparently have no possibility of offering any sort of repayment.

            Jesus asks us to love as He loved us, without exceptions. That can only be achieved through a supernatural transformation in us, fostering a different order of societal responses.

            Christian love should make us different from the world around us, because it finds its motivation in the love of God. Giving and receiving go together; only by giving do we position ourselves to hope, receive, and reap.

 

Prayer: Beloved God, teach us to love as you do, in an unconditional manner. Amen.

AMAR A LOS ENEMIGOS

Lucas 6:27-38

Hagan ustedes con los demás como quieren que los demás hagan con ustedes

Lucas 6:31

            La esencia de la vida cristiana es el amor, cuyo principio general aparece en el verso 31: “Hagan ustedes con los demás como quieren que los demás hagan con ustedes”, que es más que simplemente no hacerle a los demás, lo que no deseamos para nosotros.

            Este amor se manifiesta cuando respondemos a la injusticia e insultos personales no con venganza o resistencia pasiva; sino con hechos positivos y “agresivos” de bondad, destinados a redimir a los agresores. Amar lo que no es amable es renunciar al amor egoísta del mundo, es hablar del amor de Cristo con gente que aparentemente no tiene posibilidad de ofrecer recompensa alguna.

            Jesús nos pide que amemos tal como El amó, sin excepciones. Esto puede lograrse únicamente mediante una transformación sobrenatural en nosotros, engendrando un orden de respuestas diferentes al de la sociedad.

            El amor cristiano debe volvernos diferentes al mundo que nos rodea, porque halla su motivación en el amor de Dios. Jesús estableció una manera nueva de dar, se dio a sí mismo por las necesidades del mundo. El dar y el recibir van juntos, solamente dando nos colocamos en posición de esperar, recibir y cosechar.

 

Oración: Amado Dios, enséñanos a amar como tú lo haces, de manera incondicional. Amén.

Prayer: Lord, today I want to ask you to remove from my heart all traces of excessive worry that steal from me the peace that you give me, in the faith and security that you are with me and will not abandon me. Amen.

·            No tengan cuidado. Aprendan a orar por todo. Al pedir a Dios lo que necesiten, denle también las gracias. La paz de Dios es mucho más grande que lo que nuestras mentes pueden entender. Esta paz guardará sus corazones y mentes en Cristo Jesús.

Filipenses 4:6-7

"·         Dios es nuestro lugar seguro y nuestra fortaleza. Él está siempre listo para ayudamos cuando estamos en problemas. Así que  no temeremos, aunque la tierra tiemble y las montañas caigan en el centro del mar, y aun así sus aguas se vuelvan salvajes con la tormenta y las montañas tiemblen por ella.

Salmo 46:1-3

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Jeremiah 31:3

            I invite you to reflect upon this text that I read some time ago:

            “God has seen you pensive in these last days. God has been worried about you because you are losing touch with Him; something is happening, something is robbing you of the attention that God deserves. Problems? Crisis? Poor decisions? Results of something that failed? You are sitting there with your vision clouded, thinking and thinking how to get out of it. Your heart is beating faster than usual. There’s an uncomfortable feeling inside of you that won’t leave you alone, and it is that something isn’t quite right. You would like to flee, to run, to go to another place, but perhaps you would like to run away into the arms of the Lord. Something won’t allow it. There are many things that you would like to do, but for some strange reason, you don’t. What are you waiting for to give in? How much more will you try to go it alone?

            “Meanwhile, however, God waits patiently for you, He knows that in a little while you will recognize that you need Him. He sees you with eyes of love, as a father loves his son, and who in no way would see him suffer. Meanwhile, however, God is ready to meet you. He knows that you are reaching your limit. Suddenly, he no longer waits for your arrival, but he comes to meet you, descending on you with a supernatural presence that enfolds your life.  You weep like a child as God caresses you, as he repeats to you, ‘Do not be afraid, I am with you.’

            “There are times in life when we need to be embraced by our Heavenly Father. But for some strange reason, we avoid that moment. What are you waiting for? Why are you so slow? See your Father before you and let yourself be hugged.”

 

Prayer: Beloved God, I come into your presence because I need you and want to find you. I don’t want to wait any more. Amen.

¿QUE ESPERAS?

            Les invito a reflexionar en este texto que leí hace algún tiempo:

            “Dios te ha visto pensativo en los últimos días. Él ha estado preocupado por ti, porque estás perdiendo la comunicación con Él;  algo está pasando, algo te está robando la atención que Dios merece. ¿Problemas, crisis, malas decisiones, resultados de algo que no debía suceder? Estás sentado con tu  mirada perdida, pensando y pensando cómo salir de esto. Tu corazón palpita más rápido que de costumbre. Hay una  sensación incómoda dentro de ti que no te deja tranquilo,  y es que hay algo que no está del todo bien. Quisieras salir corriendo, huir, irte a algún lugar, pero también quisieras salir corriendo a los brazos del Señor. Pero hay algo que no lo permite. Hay muchas cosas que quisieras hacer, pero por alguna extraña razón no lo haces. ¿Qué esperas para rendirte? ¿Cuánto más lo intentarás tú solo?

            “Mientras tanto, Dios aguarda pacientemente por ti. Él sabe que falta poco para que reconozcas que necesitas de Él. Te ve con ojos de amor, como el amor de un padre que ama a su hijo, y que de ninguna forma le gustaría verlo sufrir. Mientras tanto, Dios se prepara para tu encuentro. Él sabe que tu límite está por llegar. De pronto, no espera más tu llegada sino que va a tu encuentro, desciende sobre ti con una presencia sobrenatural que cubre por completo tu vida. Lloras como un niño mientras Dios te acaricia, mientras te repite: No temas, yo estoy contigo.

            “Hay momentos en la vida en donde necesitamos ser abrazados por nuestro Padre Celestial. Pero por alguna extraña razón evitamos ese momento. ¿Qué esperas ? ¿Por qué tardas tanto? Ve delante de tu Padre y déjate abrazar.”

 

Oración: Vengo ante tu presencia Dios amado, porque te necesito y quiero hallarte ahora. No quiero esperar más. Amén.

HE NEVER FAILS

Psalm 9:10

The Lord within it (Jerusalem)is righteous; he does no wrong. Every morning he renders his judgment, each dawn without fail; but the unjust knows no shame.

Zephaniah 3:5 (NRSV)

            At times, magnificent jewels have been found in the most unusual places.

            A beautiful flower can grow up in a shady field. An exuberant rainbow may burst through dark clouds, or a dazzling landscape can appear on a forgotten road.

            So, in the book of Zephaniah, within a context marked by reprimands and warnings against a rebellious, perverse and disobedient people, the affirmation that God never fails shines like a star in a particularly dark night. God is present in order to treat us justly.

            He never fails! How many times, in the most difficult moments of our lives, has God preven to us that he never lies! God’s power never errs, nor does his wisdom, nor especially his love. God’s love never fails because God is love.

            Be of good cheer, anxious and tired heart! Never forget that God never fails!

 

Prayer: We give you unending thanks, Lord, for your promise to be with us always. Thank you because I know that you will never fail. Amen.

EL NUNCA FALLA

Salmo 9:10

¡Esos malvados no tiene vergüenza! Yo estoy en ti, Jerusalén, para hacerte bien, no para hacerte daño. Todos los días te trato con justicia

Sofonías 3:5

            En ocasiones, se han encontrado joyas magníficas en los lugares más inusitados.

            Puede brotar una hermosa flor en un terreno sombrío. De repente, un exuberante arcoiris puede irrumpir entre oscuras nubes, o puede surgir un paisaje deslumbrante en un camino olvidado.

            Así, en el libro de Sofonías, dentro de un contexto marcado por amonestaciones y condenas contra un pueblo rebelde, perverso y desobediente, la afirmación de que Dios nunca falla, brilla como una estrella en un anoche especialmente oscura. Él está presente para tratarnos con justicia.

            ¡Él no falla! ¡Cuántas veces, en los momentos más difíciles de nuestras vidas, Dios nos ha probado que nunca se equivoca! Su poder no yerra, como así tampoco su sabiduría, ni especialmente su amor. El amor de Dios nunca nos faltará, porque Él es amor.

            ¡Anímese corazón angustiado y cansado! ¡Jamás olvide que Él nunca falla!

 

Oración: Gracias infinitas te damos Señor, por tu promesa de estar siempre junto a nosotros. Gracias porque sé que nunca fallarás. Amén.

GOD’S GRACE

Matthew 20:1-16

Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?

Matthew 20:15 (NRSV)

            The parable of the laborers in the vineyard can seem to us to be unjust. To be sure, according to human reasoning, the one who works more should receive more. But Jesus is trying to teach how much love God has, so much that he had paid the same sum of money to those who had been working since early in the morning as those who came much later, based on their needs. Consequently, Jesus was not being unjust, he was being loving.

            Our heart is egotistic and envious, and it is hard for us to to be aware of that. God’s grace is unconditional. That’s why God’s grace doesn’t depend on the amount of good actions amassed by us humans. There is no attitude on our part that can make God love us more or less intensely. God’s love for each of us is unique because of Christ. Therefore, that unconditional love should be a mark of our relationships.

            The same grace ought to attend our relations. We are always putting conditions on loving those around us. Jesus died on the cross for us without asking for anything in change. He loved without any demands, despite the sins that we commit and continue committing.

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I ask your pardon for the egotism in my heart that keeps me from seeing your love in its greatest expression. Amen.

LA GRACIA DE DIOS

Mateo 20:1-16

Yo puedo hacer con mi dinero lo que me parezca. ¿Por qué te da envidia que yo sea bueno con los demás?

Mateo 20:15

            La parábola de los trabajadores de la viña puede parecernos injusta. De acuerdo con el raciocinio humano, quien trabaja más debería cobrar más. Pero Jesús estaba tratando de enseñar cuánto amor tiene Dios, a punto tal que había pagado la misma suma de dinero a los que habían estado trabajando desde temprano, que a los que llegaron más tarde, en base a sus necesidades. Por consiguiente, Jesús no estaba siendo injusto, estaba siendo amoroso.

            Nuestro corazón es egoísta y envidioso, y le cuesta darse cuenta de ello. La gracia de Dios es incondicional. Por esa razón, no depende de la cantidad de buenas acciones que realice el ser humano. No hay ninguna actitud de nuestra parte que pueda hacer que Dios nos ame más o menos intensamente. Él nos ama únicamente por causa de Cristo.

            Esa misma gracia debe atravesar nuestras relaciones. Siempre estamos poniendo condiciones para amar a los que nos rodean. Jesús murió en la cruz por nosotros sin pedir nada a cambio. Amó sin ninguna exigencia, a pesar de los pecados que todos cometimos y seguimos cometiendo. Por lo tanto, ese amor incondicional debe ser una marca en nuestras relaciones.

Oración: Señor Jesús, te pido perdón por el egoísmo que hay en mi corazón que no me permite ver tu amor en su máxima expresión. Amén.

CONTENTING OURSELVES WITH WHAT WE HAVE

1 Timothy 6:6-8

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “a voice of one calling in the wilderness,’ prepare the way for the Lord, make straight the path for him.’ (NIV)

Luke 3:4

            Actually, to content ourselves with that which we possess is not an easy thing. We live in the era of consumerism. Our society stimulates us to want more and more. We dream about a better job, a greater salary, a better and prettier house, better clothes and shoes, etc. In short, our concentration and our efforts are turned toward consumption, and this can complicate our happiness. Beside that, it’s almost impossible to relax and live in peace since the anxiety to purchase is transformed into one of our life’s objectives.

            Whoever lives trying to reach this objective many times loses the perspective of what’s really important, and more even, that compulsion can make us leave aside our family and even turn away from God.

            Be happy with what you have. That doesn’t mean that you should be lazy, idle, or indolent, but that directive will incentivize you to have equilibrium. Simplicity and contentment bring peace to the heart and to the family. Put God in first place in your life and be happy for having what’s necessary to live. Jesus conquered for you what’s really important on the cross: eternal life with God.

 

Prayer: Lord, at times it’s hard for me to feel satisfied with all I have been blessed with. Help me to contentment and peace in my heart. Amen.

CONTENTANDONOS CON LO QUE TENEMOS

1 Timoteo 6:6-8

Mucho tiempo atrás, el profeta Isaías había escrito acerca de Juan: Alguien grita en el desierto: prepárenle el camino a nuestro Dios. ¡Ábranle paso! ¡Que no encuentre estorbos!

Lucas 3:4

            Actualmente, contentarse con aquello que poseemos no es cosa fácil. Vivimos en la era del consumismo. Nuestra sociedad nos estimula a querer más y más. Soñamos con un trabajo mejor, un salario mayor, una casa mejor y más bonita, ropa y zapatos mejores, etc. En definitiva, nuestra concentración y nuestro empeño se vuelcan hacia el consumo, y ello puede  complicar nuestra felicidad. Además de ello, se torna  casi imposible relajarse y vivir en paz, ya que el ansia de comprar se transforma en uno de los objetivos de nuestra vida.

            Quien vive tratando de alcanzar ese objetivo, muchas veces pierde la perspectiva de lo que realmente importa; y más aun, esa compulsión puede hacernos dejar de lado a la familia, y hasta alejarnos de Dios.

            Conténtese con lo que tiene. Eso no significa que usted deba ser perezoso, holgazán o  indolente. Pero esa directiva lo incentivará a tener equilibrio. Simplicidad y contentamiento traen paz al corazón y a la familia. Ponga a Dios  en primer lugar en su vida y alégrese por tener lo necesario para vivir. En definitiva, Jesús conquistó para usted en la cruz lo que realmente importa: vida eterna con Dios.

 

Oración: Señor, a veces es difícil para mí sentirme satisfecha con todo con lo que he sido bendecida. Ayúdame a tener contentamiento y paz en mi corazón. Amén.

Day of love, Valentine’s Day

GOD SO LOVED

John 2:13-22

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (NIV)

John 3:16

            Love is one of the most mentioned words for different situations. I ask myself if by using it we are fully conscious of its meaning and reach. We know that the perfect synonym of the word love is God. God is love, and as we were created in his image, we are also bearers of that feeling. Let’s reread some texts:

“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love has not known God.” (I John 4: 7-8)

            “We love him because he loved us first.” (I John 4:19)

“Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate us and pray for those who insult and persecute us.” (Matthew 5: 44).

            Today’s text makes us reflect on that love of God that is given to be known through the revelation of his Son, who brings us eternal life. We need to love with such a love like this that gives itself without reserve. Love is a gift of God. He loved us before we loved him. To receive and feel that love is a commitment: love God above all things, and love others although they may not love us. Love, in this way, will attract many to Christ.

 

Prayer: Help us, God of life, to love as you love us. Amen.

Día del Amor

DE TAL MANERA AMÓ DIOS

Juan 2:13-22

De tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en éél cree no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna

Juan 3:16

            Amor es una de las palabras más mencionadas para diferentes situaciones. Me pregunto si al usarla tenemos plena conciencia de su significado y su alcance. Sabemos queelónimo perfecto de la palabra amor es Dios. Dios es el amor y como fuimos creados a su semejanza, también somos portadores de ese sentimiento. Releamos algunos textos:

-Amados,amémonos unos a otros,porque el amor es de Dios. Todo aquel que ama, es nacido de Dios, y conoce a Dios. El que no ama no ha conocido a Dios...I Juan 4:7-8.

-Nosotros le amamos porque El nos amó primero. I Juan 4: 19

-Amad a vuestros enemigos, bendecid a los que os maldicen, haced bien a quienes nos aborrecen y orad por los que nos ultrajan y persiguen. Mateo5:44.

            El texto de hoy nos hace reflexionar en ese amor de Dios que se da a conocer a través de la revelación de su Hijo, quien nos trae vida eterna. Es preciso que amemos con un amor así, que se entrega sin reservas. El amor es un don de Dios. El nos amóó antes que nosotros lo amáramos a Él. Recibir y sentir ese amor es un COMPROMISO:Amar aDios por sobre todas las cosas y amar alos demás, aunque ellos no nos amen. Amar de esta manera atraerá a muchos hacia Cristo.

 

Oración: Ayúdanos Dios de la vida, a amar como tú nos amas. Amén.
