FACING FAILURE

NUMBERS 20:1-13

“By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.”

Hebrews 11:27

Moses knew failure. When the Israelites needed water, God told him to speak to the rock, but he struck the rock with his staff and when the miracle occurred he did not declare that it had come from God.  Because of his arrogance, Moses never entered the Promised Land.  He traveled for 40 years, guiding the people and was not permitted to enter Canaan, even though it was very nearby.

Imagine how strongly Moses must have reproached himself for this grave error. Facing this disaster, he surely repeated over and over to himself:  if only the people had not complained so much; if only they hadn’t tormented me; if only I had obeyed God; if only…

Years later, the Bible points to Moses in the Book of Hebrews as a man of faith.  I consider this to be a great honor for someone who felt like a failure.

And what about us?  Do we reproach ourselves when we fail?  Let us have assurance that if we confess our errors and are willing to be reconciled, God forgives us.  And once forgiven and restored by God, let us stop reproaching and scolding ourselves. When we turn back to God with sincerity, we should be willing not just to receive but also to rejoice for his forgiveness.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for loving us even when we fail to follow your instructions. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

ANTE EL FRACASO

NÚMEROS 20:1-13

“Por la fe salió de Egipto, sin temor a la ira del rey,

y se mantuvo firme, como si estuviera viendo al Invisible”

Hebreos 11:27

Moisés conoció el fracaso. Cuando los israelitas necesitaban agua, Dios le dijo que le hablara a la roca, pero él golpeó la roca con su bastón y al ocurrir el milagro no declara que éste venía de Dios. A causa de su arrogancia, Moisés nunca pisó la tierra prometida. Viajó 40 años, guiando al pueblo  y no pudo entrar a Canaán, aunque estuvo muy cerca.

Imaginen cómo Moisés se habría recriminado por este gran desliz. Seguramente ante este fracaso se repetía una y otra vez: si tan solo la gente no se hubiera quejado tanto, si no me hubieran atormentado, si le hubiera obedecido a Dios, si tan solo…

Años después la Biblia en Hebreos 11 resalta a Moisés como un hombre de fe. Considero que esto es un gran homenaje para alguien que se sintió fracasado.

¿Y nosotros? ¿Cuánto nos recriminamos ante un fracaso? Tengamos la seguridad que si confesamos nuestros errores y estamos dispuestos a reconciliarnos, Dios nos perdona. Por tanto, una vez perdonados y renovados por Dios, dejemos de recriminarnos y regañarnos. Cuando nos volvemos a Dios con sinceridad, debemos estar dispuestos no sólo a recibir, sino a disfrutar de su perdón.
