Saturday, October 20 GOD CARES FOR US LUKE 11:1-13

Saturday, October 20
GOD CARES FOR US
LUKE 11:1-13

If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will the heavenly Father give
the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?

Luke 11:13 CEB

God is interested in us.  God is interested because God is our Father and our Mother. As a child returns to his father, so we should return to God.  As a child knows his mother will give him good things, so we should be sure of the love and protection of our God.

The truth that Jesus communicates to us is very simple.  But often the simplest truths are not the easiest to accept.  This God who is our Father-Mother and listens to a child, this God who is interested in our insignificant requests, is far from the theologized God created by our own wisdom.  Nevertheless, this is the God in whom Jesus believed and to whom he teaches us to pray.

God is like a Father or a Mother who wants to share in the happiness of their sons and daughters, but who also wants to know their needs and their problems, even though God already knows them.  God is not interested in prayers that are recited with blank minds and fuzzy purposes.  The parable of the friend who calls at the inappropriate time makes us see that God likes to be bothered by the insistence of our requests.

Prayer:  Thank you, Father and Mother of life, for caring for us, our family and those around us.  Thank you for considering us your sons and daughters.  Amen.

DIOS NOS CUIDA
LUCAS 11:1-13

Friday, October 19 LIVING A CONSTANT ADVENTURE LUKE 9:57-62

Friday, October 19
LIVING A CONSTANT ADVENTURE
LUKE 9:57-62

Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand on the plow
and looks back is fit for God’s kingdom.”
Luke 9:62 CEB

Often there is a battle between common sense and absolute confidence in God.  Suppose that God presents us with a difficult situation and one possible solution, but neither one falls into the normal channel of human situations, what we call “common sense.” What do we do then?

If we say that Jesus Christ is the Lord of our lives, and He orders us to take a risky attitude, “what do we do?”  Probably we do what “the other” does in today’s text: I will follow you, but… Or we might say: “That is fine, but what will happen if I obey you?  I will obey you but let me continue using my common sense.  It is not right to jump into the darkness.”

All things that are really worthwhile and sublime are reached by taking great risks and making great sacrifices.  The Christian life is no exception.  At times there is a need to risk everything: parents, children, siblings, possessions.  Our God is exacting and demanding.  Jesus Christ takes it for granted that the one who accepts him and follows him will be ready to do his will, which would be the least reasonable thing in the world. When we apply the common-sense rule, God’s demands could be silly or crazy, but if we apply the rule of faith, we can completely trust that they are the most wise and sensible results for the well-being of the human being.  Trust in the Lord and you will joyfully have all types of adventures with Christ.

Prayer: Help me Lord to trust more in you each day. Through Jesus Christ, Amen.

VIVIENDO UNA CONSTANTE AVENTURA
LUCAS 9:57-62

Thursday, October 18 LIVING ALSO FOR THE OTHER MARK 12:28-34

Thursday, October 18
LIVING ALSO FOR THE OTHER
MARK 12:28-34

…and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being,
with all your mind, and with all your strength.
Mark 12:30 CEB

It is true that each one is responsible for his or her own life, but we should not be so preoccupied with our own problems and difficulties that we fail to care about the problems and needs of others.  To live for oneself is to perish. Jesus said that the first and greatest commandment was to love God with all the heart and mind, and the second was to love the neighbor as oneself.

For Christ, the cross signifies the means of sacrifice for others.  For us Christians, the cross of Christ represents the challenge to live in constant love for others.

When we are capable of thinking about others and giving ourselves for others, we are truly sons and daughters of God. Happiness is not a personal belonging, and even when rationed, it is to be consumed collectively.

Prayer:  Bless us, beloved God, and give us the grace to care for all your creation as you have taught us.  Forgive us when we behave selfishly, and we think only of our own happiness.  Help us to live for others, in the way that your Son Jesus did during his ministry.  Amen.

VIVIENDO TAMBIÉN POR LOS DEMÁS
MARCOS 12:28-34

Wednesday, October 17 TRUSTING IN HIS MERCY MATTHEW 12:7

Wednesday, October 17
TRUSTING IN HIS MERCY
MATTHEW 12:7

Finally, all of you be of one mind, sympathetic, lovers of your fellow believers,
compassionate, and modest in your opinion of yourselves.
1 Peter 3:8 CEB

As believers in Jesus Christ we live trusting in his mercy.  We know that life demands of us strength, wisdom and courage that many times we do not have.  Then we are afraid of life itself, that we will be destroyed by the blows we receive, and we turn our eyes to the heights, crying for mercy.  When we trust in God’s mercy, we confront life with a victorious attitude despite our weaknesses.  It is good to reflect on this and to remember those who live around us and hope for mercy from us.  We cannot tire of doing good and doing it with joy.  Let’s begin with our sons and daughters and let’s extend our mercy toward all who need our generous support.

When we see that we are amazed and worried about the manifestations of evil, hatred and selfishness that are in today’s world, let us think with care that we form part of this world and it could be that our way of life reflects all that is around us in spite of our knowing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Our daily action must be permeated with the love of God and for our neighbors, with the same sacrificial spirit with which Christ taught us to love.

Let us look around us and we will see a world in need of God’s mercy and we will remember that God offers mercy through those who become instruments of his divine plans.

Prayer:  I ask, Lord, that you help us to live trusting in your mercy.  Make us carriers and multipliers of this mercy in the world.  Through Jesus, Amen

CONFIADOS EN SU MISERICORDIA
MATEO 12:7

Tuesday, October 16 HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD MATTHEW 7:21-29

Tuesday, October 16
HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD
MATTHEW 7:21-29

All these blessings will come upon you
and find you if you obey the Lord your God’s voice.
Deuteronomy 28:2 CEB

God demands that we listen to him.  Jesus said on various occasions, “he that has ears to hear, listen.”  Jesus knew that one listens to God also with the heart, with the disposition to follow God’s path.

God constantly talks to us, and his Word is recognized because he speaks with authority.  God speaks to us in big ways and in little ways.  Prophetic voices rise from any source:  from within the church and from outside the church as well.  Our conscience speaks the language of God when we are confronted with the word of the Gospel.  In prayer when we don’t know the right thing to say, God also speaks to us. God speaks, but we must listen to him.  To listen is to hear with diligence and attention. To hear the voice of God is to hear to put to work what we hear.  To listen to the voice of God is to obey it.  If we listen to God, we will obey God.

God speaks in all and through all.  To hear the voice of God is a blessing. God blesses us when God speaks. If something becomes a curse, it is because we don’t listen to his voice to obey him in all his commandments.

Prayer: We want to listen to you, God.  Speak to us so we can hear you.  Speak to us so we can follow your voice.  Amen.

OÍR LA VOZ DE DIOS
MATEO 7:21-29

LIVING IN ACCORDANCE
WITH CHRIST’S TEACHINGS
MATTHEW 7:1-6
¿Why do you look at the speck of sawdust
In your brother’s eye
and pay no attention to the plank
in your own eye?   (NIV)
Matthew 7:3

The opinion others have of us worries us greatly. We take care with our form of dressing, speaking, and table manners, or conversing. We want to impress at work, at home, and at the institutions to which we belong. But do we worry about what opinion God may have of us?

At some time or another we have all been present at what we commonly call “a memorial service.” It’s the moment in which we all become good, and our virtues generally cover all our deficiencies, perversities or limitations. It would be interesting to know what God thinks of those which we, out of either fear or pity, sanctify just at the hour of bidding them farewell from their life here on earth.

Jesus taught us to evaluate our lives in the light of divine criteria. Could everything we are, possess, feel, be approved of by God?

In these days of scientific advancements and of the multiplication of technical facilities to make our lives more comfortable, it seems to us that we can set God aside, and think that He is now unnecessary, wanting ourselves to be the measure of all things. Don’t permit our lives, our greatest gift, to be a motive of scandal for God and for others.

Prayer: Lord, don’t let me waste my life on worthless things. Help me to walk the righteous path.  Amen.

VIVIENDO DE ACUERDO A
LAS ENSEÑANZAS DE CRISTO
MATEO 7:1-6

Sunday, October 14 Anniversary of the IPR in Palos THE REFRESHING DEW OF GOD HOSEA 14:5

Sunday, October 14
Anniversary of the IPR in Palos

THE REFRESHING DEW OF GOD
HOSEA 14:5

He saved us through the washing of rebirth
and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

Titus 3:5

Dew is a source of freshness. It is nature’s provision for renewing the surface of the earth. And without it the vegetation would die. This great value of dew is that which is recognized with great frequency in the Scriptures. It is used as a symbol of spiritual refreshment. Just the same as nature uses the bath of dew, so too does the Lord renew his believers.

Many Christians don’t realize the importance of spiritual dew in their lives, and consequently lack freshness and vigor. Their spirits falter for lack of dew.

While there is heat or wind the dew never collects; the temperature must diminish for it, the wind must cease, and the air needs to reach a certain state of freshness and repose, in other words, of an absolute repose, before it may give its invisible particles of succulence to sprinkle the grass or flower.

In the same way, God’s grace doesn’t come to console the soul of human beings until it has serenely and completely reached the state of repose that it should. The haste and turbulence of the despondent soul will impede feeling the dew of God. Wait before God until you feel saturated with his presence, and afterwards proceed to fulfill your next duty with the new freshness and vigor of Christ.

Prayer: Celestial Father, I give you thanks in this day because I know that I will always have your refreshing dew to calm me from the heat and the hurriedness of daily life. Amen.

Aniversario de la IPR de Palos

EL ROCÍO REFRESCANTE DE DIOS
OSEAS 14:5

Por medio del lavamiento nos ha hecho nacer de nuevo;
