GOD LIVES IN ME

Genesis  41:29-38

Pharoah said to his servants, “Can we find anyone else like this – one in whom is  the spirit of God?”

            I recently read a book in which God appears before a man who, by losing a son, loses faith, hope and interest in his family and his life. It made me reflect on an idea expressed in the voice of God: “I don’t want you to be my follower, but to carry me within you.”

            That is precisely what Pharoah said of Joseph: one in whom is the Spirit of God. Why did the people who met Joseph see the Spirit of God in him? Despite having been a slave and unjustly imprisoned, Joseph always trusted that his God had a plan for him. He was obedient, strong in the face of temptation, and patient in the face of adversity. When, with all the power that Pharoah had given him, he met his brothers again, he had compassion on them and forgave them. He interceded for his family and his people and brought them to Egypt. He could be that way because he carried the Spirit of God deep within him.

            And we? Can we that by our way of being and acting, others recognize that we are filled with the Spirit of God? Are we compassionate and supportive of the needs of the neighbor? Are we willing to forgive?

 

Prayer: Thank you Lord, for your presence in us. Give us the strength and perseverance so that by your grace we can show you to those around us. Amen

DIIOS VIVE EN MÍ

Génesis  41:29-38

Y dijo Faraón a sus siervos: ¿Acaso hallaremos a otro hombre como éste; en quien esté el espíritu de Dios ?

            Recientemente leí un libro en el que Dios se presenta ante un hombre que al perder a un hijo, pierde fe, la  esperanza y el interés por su familia y su vida.  Me hizo reflexionar una idea expresada en la voz de Dios: “No  quiero que seas mi seguidor, sino que me lleves dentro de ti”.

            Eso es precisamente lo que Faraón dijo de José: un hombre en quien está el espíritu de Dios. ¿Por qué las personas que se encontraban con José veían al Espíritu de Dios en él? A pesar de  haber sido esclavo y estar en la cárcel injustamente, José siempre confió en que su Dios tenía un plan para él. Fue obediente, fuerte ante las tentaciones, paciente frente a las adversidades. Cuando con todo el poder que le había dado Faraón volvió a encontrarse con sus hermanos, tuvo compasión de ellos y los perdonó. Intercedió por su familia y su pueblo y los trajo a Egipto. Pudo ser así porque llevaba muy dentro de sí el Espíritu de Dios.

            ¿Y nosotros? ¿Podemos decir que por nuestra forma de ser y actuar, los demás reconocen que estamos llenos del espíritu de Dios?  ¿Somos compasivos y solidarios con las necesidades del prójimo?, ¿estamos dispuestos a perdonar?

 

Oración: Gracias, Señor, por  sentir tu presencia en nosotros. Danos la fortaleza y la constancia para que por tu gracia podamos mostrarte a los que nos rodean. Amén.

TRIALS

Luke 4:1-13

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness.

            We can think that if the Holy Spirit guides us, only good things will happen, but this is not always the case. We are continually tested with good and bad things, and  we learn from both. Our Lord Jesus was not exempt from that. He was taken to the desert for a long and difficult journey of trial.

            Several offers are made to Jesus, but he stands firm and does not allow himself to be tempted by anything. Let us ask ourselves: in what way did Jesus overcome temptation? He  rejected them by using biblical texts, by using the sacred scriptures.

            We also must study the word of God;  learn those verses that help strengthen our faith, and thus be able to overcome the trials that are presented to us.  Knowing and obeying the scriptures is an effective weapon against temptation. Let’s read the Bible daily and apply it to our lives, so that our sword will always have a good edge and  be able to defeat the evil one.

 

Prayer: Beloved Father, give us wisdom to study your Word and apply it to our lives. Amen.

LAS PRUEBAS

Lucas 4:1-13

Jesús lleno de Espíritu Santo, volvió del rio Jordán, y el Espíritu lo llevó al desierto

Lucas 4:1

            Podemos pensar que si el Espíritu Santo nos guíía solo sucederán cosas buenas, pero no siempre es así, continuamente somos probados con cosas buenas y malas, y de las dos aprendemos. Nuestro Señor Jesús no estuvo exento de eso; fue llevado al desierto para una larga y difícil jornada de prueba.

            A Jesús le hacen varias ofertas, pero se mantiene firme y no permitió ser tentado por nada. Preguntémonos ahora: ¿de qué manera Jesús venció las tentaciones? Haciendo uso de las escrituras sagradas, las rehusó utilizando un texto bíblico, utilizando las sagradas escrituras.

            Nosotros también debemos estudiar la palabra de Dios y aprendernos esos versículos que nos ayudan a fortalecer nuestra fe, y así poder vencer las pruebas que se nos presentan. Conocer y obedecer las Escrituras, es un arma eficaz contra las tentaciones; leámosla a diario y apliquémosla a nuestra vida, así nuestra espada tendrá siempre un buen filo para poder vencer al maligno.

 

Oración: Padre amado danos sabiduría para estudiar tu Palabra y aplicarla a nuestras vidas. Amén.

BEING HUMBLE

John 13:1-11

Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you  have no share with me.”

John 13:8 (NRSV)

            Things are as they are. Sometimes it is best to teach  with a gesture. And what a gesture is today’s reading! It was a gesture that surprised everyone.

            Gesture that becomes and transforms into a doable lesson: to be humble in service and to be humble in accepting help when we need it. Humble in recognizing one’s own limitations and weaknesses; and in full knowledge of this, act accordingly.

            Knowing that he would return to God soon, Jesus continues to show immense love for others. Without doubt, he had a lot of confidence in his disciples and that is why he teaches them to the end. Then,  one would betray him, another would deny him, but the teaching was without distinction, and it still is today.

            Some people think they are too important to do simple things. Well, learn the lesson of the greatest: he knelt down and washed the feet of his followers

            You can no longer be my follower, said Jesus, if you are not humble enough to accept  that others do something for you to begin with. When we experience receiving with gratitude, we will be able to give with joy.

 

Prayer: My good Lord Jesus, give me humility. Help me learn from your humility that, being the greatest, you became the smallest. Amen

SIENDO HUMILDES

Juan 13:1-11

Pedro le dijo: “ No me lavarás los pies jamás.” Jesús le respondió: “Si no te lavo, no tendrás parte conmigo”

            Las cosas son como son. A veces se enseña mejor con un gesto. ¡Y vaya qué gesto el de la lectura de hoy! Fue un gesto que sorprendió a todos.

            Gesto que se convierte y transforma en una doble lección al ser humildes en el servicio y al ser humildes en aceptar ayuda cuando la necesitamos. Humildes en reconocer las propias limitaciones, las debilidades; y en pleno conocimiento de esto, obrar en consecuencia.

            Sabiendo Jesús que volvería a Dios pronto, aun sigue demostrando inmenso amor por los demás. Sin dudas, tenía mucha confianza en sus discípulos y por eso les enseña hasta el fin. Luego uno lo traicionaría, otro lo negaría. Pero la enseñanza fue sin distinciones, y lo sigue siendo hoy.

            Algunas personas se creen demasiado importantes para hacer cosas sencillas. Pues bien, aprendan la lección del más grande: se arrodilló y lavó los pies de sus seguidores.

            Ya no podrás ser mi seguidor, dijo Jesús, si no eres suficientemente humilde para aceptar que otros hagan algo por ti, para empezar. Cuando experimentemos recibir con gratitud, podremos dar con alegría.

BLESSINGS

Exodus 33:19

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,

            I once heard a song that said the best way to fall asleep and enjoy a good rest is to count the blessings received, instead of little sheep. What good advice!

            Every day we enjoy many things that God gives us. That our heart beats is one of them. Waking up this morning is another. Knowing that Jesus offers us his love and forgiveness is one of the most important. So, we could enumerate many benefits, large and small that our creator allows us to experience daily.  Many people fail to see how many blessings surround them. They focus only on the negative aspects, and complaint occupies a very important place in their way of speaking.  That is why so many live lives bitter and full of stress.

            Being blessed does not mean that everything goes perfectly, nor does it mean that we are free from problems and difficulties. On the contrary, it is going through every circumstance with the confidence and attitude of knowing that we are in the hands of a loving and merciful God.  The word “blessing” deals with a sum of elements that make life a formidable experience.

 

Prayer:  Thank you Father because your blessings in my life are countless. For each of them I thank you, Lord.  Help me to eliminate all complaints from my life. Amen.

BENDICIONES

Exodo 33:19

Bendito sea el Dios  y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que nos bendijo con toda bendición espiritual en los lugares celestiales en Cristo.

Efesios 1:3

            Escuché en una ocasión una canción que decía que la mejor manera de conciliar el sueño y disfrutar un buen descanso es contar las bendiciones recibidas, en vez de contar ovejitas. ¡Qué buen consejo!

            Cada día disfrutamos de muchísimas cosas que Dios nos regala. Que nuestro corazón palpite es una de ellas. Habernos despertado esta mañana es otra. Saber que Jesús nos ofrece su amor y perdón es una de las más importantes. Y así podríamos enumerar una gran cantidad de beneficios, grandes y pequeños, que nuestro Creador nos permite vivir a diario. Mucha gente  no logra ver cuántas bendiciones tiene a su alrededor. Se enfoca sólo en los aspectos negativos, y la queja ocupa un lugar demasiado importante en su forma de hablar. Esa es la razón por la cual tantas personas viven amargadas y llenas de estrés.

            Ser bendecido no quiere decir que todo sale a la perfección, ni tampoco que estamos libres de problemas y dificultades. Al contrario, es atravesar cada circunstancia con la confianza y la actitud de saber que estamos en las manos de un  Dios amoroso y lleno de misericordia. La palabra “bendición” trata de una suma de elementos que hacen de la vida una experiencia formidable.

 

Oración: Gracias Padre, porque  tus bendiciones en mi vida son incontables. Por cada una  de ellas te agradezco Señor. Ayúdame  a eliminar de mi vida toda queja. Amén.

BY FAITH ALONE

Hebrews 11

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

            One of the most powerful experiences in people’s lives is faith, that God given capacity that allows us to relate to Him, and project ourselves into the future. The Bible teaches that all human beings have faith, but we do not always use it according to God’s desires. For example, we can always put our trust in something or someone where we can focus our faith.

            A great way to define what  faith means to us is to use the word “trust,” because that’s what it’s all about. Just as a small child trusts its parents, in the same way God wants us to trust Him. There will be times when we feel that our faith is on the ground, as if it does not have the strength to look up and believe what the Bible says about our reality. But whatever the experience we are living, let us remember that faith is superior to feelings. It is about believing that God always tells the truth and that he fulfills everything he has promised.

            Having faith, then, is to trust in our Creator and to  know that He listens to us and will give His answers for those things we ask of Him in prayer. Let us draw near to God and talk to Him every day.

 

Prayer:  Lord, increase my faith. Amen.

SOLO POR FE

Hebreos 11

Es pues, la fe, la certeza de lo que espera, la convicción de lo que no se ve

Hebreos 11:1

            Una de las experiencias más poderosas en la vida de las personas es la fe, esa capacidad dada por Dios que nos permite relacionarnos con Él y proyectarnos hacia el futuro. La Biblia enseña que todos los seres humanos tenemos fe, pero no siempre la utilizamos de acuerdo a los deseos de Dios. Por ejemplo, las personas siempre ponemos nuestra confianza en algo o en alguien donde podamos enfocar nuestra fe.

            Una excelente manera de definir lo que significa la fe es utilizar la palabra "confianza", porque de eso se trata. Así como un  niño pequeño confía en sus padres, de esa misma manera Dios desea que confiemos en Él. Habrá momentos en los que sintamos que nuestra fe está  por el suelo, como si no tuviera la fuerza necesaria para ayudarnos en los problemas. En otras ocasiones quizás tengamos la fuerza suficiente para levantar la mirada y creer lo que dice la Biblia acerca de nuestra realidad. Pero sea como fuere la experiencia que estemos viviendo, recordemos que la fe es superior a los sentimientos. Se trata de creer que Dios siempre dice la verdad y que cumple todo lo que ha prometido.

            Tener fe, entonces, es confiar en nuestro Creador y saber que nos escucha y nos dará su respuesta para aquellas cosas que le pedimos en oración. Acerquémonos a Dios y hablemos con Él cada día.

 

Oración: Señor, aumenta mi fe. Amén.

HAVE MERCY ON ME LORD

Psalm 51:3-17

Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take you holy spirit from me.

Psalm 51:11 (NRSV)

            We don’t like to pronounce the word sin. I don’t know if it’s out of fear or because we think we’re free from it. However, each one of us experiences, in the depths of our being,  the presence of a negative force and the rejection of the light and the gift of himself. This force is not something external, but part of ourselves,  and is our work. 

            “ For your love, oh God, have mercy on me.” In this psalm the sense of personal guilt is clearly expressed, however attenuated it may be, given the deficient moral condition of  human beings from the first moment of their  existence.   But the psalmist cries out his hope:  although the human being is corrupted, purity of heart is not an unrealizable dream, because beyond all evil is God’s forgiveness. Beyond all the evil force that may exist, there is the force of God.  God who created the human being by communicating his spirit can also recreate and renew him. He only needs our recognition and repentance.

            This psalm is bathed completely in an atmosphere of serenity. God does  not want our death, but for us to live. And the sinner, forgiven and sure of God’s incessant forgiveness, will be in the middle of  the bitter and pessimistic world, the witness of divine mercy.

 

Prayer: Beloved Father, let us be able to recognize and repent of our sins so that we have the power to be forgiven by you. Amen.

TEN COMPASIÓN DE MI SEÑOR

Salmo 51:3-17

No me apartes de tu presencia ni me quites tu santo espíritu.

Salmo 51:11

            No nos gusta pronunciar la palabra pecado, no sé si es por miedo o porque pensamos que estamos libres de él. Sin embargo, cada uno de nosotros experimenta en lo más profundo de su ser la presencia de una fuerza negativa y de rechazo a la luz y al don de sí mismo. Esta fuerza no es algo exterior, sino que parte de nuestro yo, y es obra nuestra.

            “Por tu amor, oh Dios, ten compasión de mi”. En este salmo se expresa claramente el sentido de la culpabilidad personal, por atenuada que sea, dada la condición moral deficiente del ser humano desde el primer instante de su existencia. Pero el salmista grita su esperanza: el ser humano no está corrompido de manera definitiva, la pureza de corazón no es un sueño irrealizable, pues mas allá de todo mal está el perdón de Dios; mas allá de toda la fuerza maligna que pueda existir, está la fuerza de Dios: Dios, que creó al ser humano comunicáándole su espíritu, lo puede también recrear y renovar, solo necesita de nuestro reconocimiento y arrepentimiento.

            Todo este salmo esta bañado de una atmosfera de serenidad, pues Dios no quiere nuestra muerte, sino que vivamos. Y el pecador, perdonado y seguro del perdón incesante Dios, será, en medio del mundo amargado y pesimista, el testigo de la misericordia divina.

 

Oración: Padre amado, permite que podamos reconocer y arrepentirnos de nuestros pecados para poder ser perdonados por ti. Amén.

THE RICH

Psalm 127

Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.

            Some of the richest people are those who consider their children to be an inheritance from the Lord. At a time when many couples view raising a family as a burdensome expense that limits freedom and undermines their goals, it is gratifying to hear from parents whose sacrifices and love for their children bring them great joy and blessing, rewards beyond all measure.

            A couple from my community gave this testimony: “After having been married 42 years, we are now retired. We have raised 4 children and given them a Christian education. They are all married, and we have 10 grandchildren. We have been greatly blessed. No, we are not rich, but money does not give a kiss like a grandson can.”

            It is risky to bring children into the world because they can break our hearts. They can choose bad ways. But if we accept them as God’s reward, surround them with prayer, and learn to overcome selfishness through the challenges of family life, the risk will be worth it.

            As parents, let us measure our wealth by God’s standard, giving thanks for the inheritance of the children he has entrusted to us. Even if they are not spiritually where we would like to see them, let us protect this heritage with daily prayer, loving concern, and words and actions that tell them they are special. Over the years we will be greatly enriched.

 

Prayer:  Thank you Lord, for my children.  Amen.

RICOS

Salmo 127

He aquí, herencia de Jehová son los hijos; cosa de estima el fruto del vientre

Salmo 127:3

            Algunas de las personas más ricas son las que consideran a sus hijos como herencia del Señor. En una época en que muchas parejas consideran criar una familia como un gasto gravoso que limita su libertad y quebranta sus objetivos, es grato oír de padres cuyos sacrificios y amor por sus hijos les da gran gozo y bendición, recompensas que van más allá de toda medida.

            Una pareja de mi comunidad dio este testimonio: “Nos hemos jubilado ahora, habiendo estado casados 42 años. Hemos criado cuatro hijos y les hemos dado una educación cristiana. Están todos casados y tenemos 10 nietos. Hemos sido grandemente bendecidos. No, no somos ricos, pero el dinero no nos da un beso como un nieto lo puede hacer”.

            Es arriesgado traer hijos al mundo, porque pueden romper nuestros corazones. Pueden elegir malos caminos. Pero si los aceptamos como recompensa de Dios, los rodeamos de oración y aprendemos, mediante los retos de la vida familiar, a vencer el egoísmo, el riesgo habrá valido la pena.

            Como padres midamos nuestra riqueza por la norma de Dios, dándole gracias por la bendita herencia de los hijos que Él nos ha confiado. Incluso si no se hallan espiritualmente allí donde nosotros quisiéramos verlos, protejamos esta herencia con oración diaria, una solicitud amante y palabras y acciones que les digan que son especiales. Con el paso de los años seremos grandemente enriquecidos.

 

Oración: Gracias Señor, por mis hijos. Amén.
