THE TICK TOCK OF THE WATCH

Psalm 90

Teach us to number our days so we can have a wise heart..

Psalm 90:12 (CEB)

            It often happens that we have to wait more than an hour to get to sleep. While we are lying there, trying to find a comfortable position in the bed, maybe a thousand thoughts pass through our minds.  At other times, the worries about the next day keep us from the possibility of resting peacefully.  In the darkness of our bedroom, we may even listen to the tick tock of the clock.  Then we could remember Psalm 90 and ask the Lord to help us use our days in activities that produce fruit for eternity.

            For sure there are times when we would like to stop the clock or on the other hand, make it move more slowly.  But time is sovereign and all resistance or human determination to change it runs out.  Time cannot be altered or forced to stop.  Nothing, absolutely nothing, can interrupt its tireless tick tock. 

            Time is precious.  Life is short.  We are fragile. Eternity is certain and inevitable like time that always marches forward.  God desires that our hours on the earth gather strength in joining forces with God’s Kingdom.

 

Prayer: Lord, allow us today to do something that results in your glory and contributes significantly to your eternal Kingdom.  Amen.

EL TICTAC DEL RELOJ

Salmo 90

Enséñanos  a pensar cómo vivir para que nuestra mente se llene de sabiduría.

Salmo 90:12

            Muchas veces antes de dormir nos ocurre que debemos esperar más de una hora para conciliar el sueño. Mientras estamos acostados, intentando encontrar una posición confortable en la cama, es posible que mil pensamientos atraviesen nuestra mente. En otras ocasiones puede ocurrir que las preocupaciones del día siguiente nos quiten la posibilidad de descansar tranquilamente. En la oscuridad de nuestra habitación, quizás podamos incluso escuchar el tictac del reloj. Podríamos recordar entonces el salmo 90 y pedirle al Señor que nos ayude a emplear nuestros días en actividades que produzcan frutos por toda la eternidad.

            Es cierto que a veces nos gustaría detener el reloj, o de algún modo, obligarlo a marchar más despacio. Pero el tiempo es soberano y vence toda resistencia o determinación humana. No puede ser alterado o forzado a detenerse. Nada, absolutamente nada, puede interrumpir su incansable tictac.

            El tiempo es precioso. La vida es corta. Nosotros somos frágiles. La eternidad es tan cierta e inevitable como el tiempo que marcha siempre hacia adelante. Dios desea que nuestras horas en la tierra sumen esfuerzos en pro de su Reino.

Oración: Señor, permítenos hoy hacer algo que resulte en gloria para ti y contribuya significativamente a tu Reino en la eternidad. Amén.
