FRUIT FOR THE KINGDOM
LUKE 13: 1-9
Nevertheless, He has given each of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.
Ephesians 4:7
Today’s text states that those who suffer or die from these calamities have received divine punishment; but Jesus rejects the idea that those who suffer are worse sinners. Rather, we are all called to repent, and He invites us to view reality through the eyes of faith rather than through the simplistic logic of punishment.
The vision of the Kingdom is, then, a perspective of mercy and truth: God does not take pleasure in the death of sinners but gives them time to change. It’s not enough to lament evil or rely on privileges; the attitude we must adopt is one of humble and active conversion.
In the parable of the barren fig tree, Jesus reveals God’s patience—God waits for fruit—but also the urgency of not living in spiritual barrenness. In that way, embracing the Kingdom requires patience with others, just as God is patient with us. It also requires responsibility, because the present time is an opportunity to bear fruit, to use the gifts God has given us.
Those who live this way walk in hope, knowing that God’s mercy always seeks our salvation.
Prayer: Merciful God, till and fertilize our lives so that your grace may transform our hearts and we may translate our faith into love, justice, and reconciliation. Amen.

FRUTOS PARA EL REINO
LUCAS 13: 1-9
