ETERNAL LIFE

Matthew 19:16-22

“Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”

             The eternal life that we live and that we will live afterwards is a gift and privilege that can only be obtained through God’s grace.

             Matthew is a book written for Jewish listeners, so to the question of this young rich man, Jesus refers to the ancient writings of the Jewish community: “keep the commandments.” The young man who asks knows those commandments; he is part of the Jewish community, but something is keeping him from obtaining “eternal life.” In this case it is the possesion of his riches that for him are inseparable from living. They are a grat burden for his life, to the extent that his question points to this objective “What good can I do?” He thinks about doing as he thinks about using money or riches beyond what he needs for living. He would say, “What can I do with some of my wealth to ‘buy’ and obtain ‘eternal life?’”

             Eternal life is not bought with material valuables, because material is not important; the main thing is to get rid of all that “weighs” and impedes our walk in the freedom of the kingdom.

 

 Prayer: My God and Lord, allow me to be able to lay aside all that hinders me from living from now on in the tranquility and tenderness of eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

LA VIDA ETERNA

MATEO 19:16-22

 

“…Maestro. ¿qué bien haré para obtener la vida eterna?”

 

Mateo 19:16

 

            La vida eterna la vivimos desde aquí, vivirla es un don y un privilegio que solamente se puede obtener mediante la gracia de Dios.

 

            Mateo es un libro escrito para interlocutores judíos, ante la pregunta de este joven rico, Jesús se remite a los libros antiguos del pueblo judío, “guarda los mandamientos”. El joven que le pregunta sabe de estos mandamientos, es parte del pueblo judío, pero tiene algo que le impide obtener la “vida eterna”, en este caso la posesión de sus riquezas que le son inseparables para vivir. Son un peso muy grande para su vida, al extremo que su pregunta apunta a este objetivo, “qué bien haré"; piensa en hacer, como piensa el que dispone de dinero o de riquezas superiores a las que necesita para vivir. Diría: ¿qué pudiera hacer con algo de mis riquezas para “pagar” y obtener “la vida eterna”?

 

            La vida eterna no se compra con valores materiales, porque lo material no es lo importante, lo principal es despojarse de todo lo que “pesa” y nos impide andar en la libertad del reino.

 

 

Oración: Permite mi Dios y Señor, que pueda dejar de un lado lo que me obstaculiza a vivir desde aquí la tranquilidad y la ternura de la vida eterna. Por Jesús. Amén.

I FEEL LIKE TALKING TO YOU

Matthew 19: 13-15

“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”

            It is impossible for me to think of life without the joy, ingenuity and nobility of children. They cheer us up and allow us to share their laughter, badness, and new ways of learning from life, to transport us with their experiences to the happy moments of our childhood.

 

            My granddaughter already knows how to read and write, because she is finishing the first grade and from her house she uses the phone, managing to dial by herself, but the interesting thing is that every time she calls she tells me: “Grandpa, I feel like talking to you.”

 

            Can there be an expression more genuine, loving, and sincere than when a child expresses something that she feels or desires? Children not only laugh, they make us laugh when they give us the joy of their innocence. In them is the ferment of the kingdom; in them we find the joy of knowing that we form part of the family of God.  I would like to invite you to do the same as my granddaughter, calling our heavenly Father saying, “Father, I feel like talking to you.” Just as it gave me joy to receive my granddaughter’s message, our God will be pleased that you talk to him and share with him your joy and goodness; please talk to him.

 

Prayer: Lord, I want to be like a child, to talk to you frankly and innocently; I want to form part of the kingdom. Amen.

TENGO GANAS DE HABLAR CONTIGO

MATEO 19: 13-15

“Dejad a los niños, y no les impidáis que vengan a mi, porque de los que son como éstos es el reino de los cielos”

 

Mateo 19:14

 

            Me resulta imposible pensar en la vida sin la alegría, ingenuidad y nobleza de los niños. Ellos nos alegran y permiten que al compartir sus risas, maldades, y las nuevas formas de aprender de la vida, logremos con sus vivencias transportarnos a los instantes felices de nuestra infancia.

 

            Ya mi nieta sabe leer y escribir, porque está terminando el primer grado y desde su casa usa el teléfono, logrando discar por sí misma, pero lo interesante es que siempre que llama me dice: “abuelito, tengo ganas de hablar contigo”.

 

            ¿Puede existir una expresión más genuina, amorosa y sincera que la de un niño cuando expresa algo que siente o desea? Los niños no solo ríen, sino que nos hacen reír, además nos dan el gozo de su ingenuidad; en ellos está el fermento del reino, en ellos podemos encontrar la alegría de conocer que formamos parte de la familia de Dios. Me gustaría invitarle a que haga lo mismo que mi nieta, llamando a nuestro Padre celestial todos los días, diciéndole: “Padre, tengo ganas de hablar contigo.” Al igual que me brindó alegría recibir el mensaje de mi nieta, a nuestro Dios le va agradar que le hables y compartas con él de tu alegría y bondad; por favor habla con El.

 

Oración: Señor quiero ser como un niño, hablarte en forma franca e ingenua, quiero formar parte del reino. Amén.

THE LIVING GOSPEL

I JOHN 4:7-11

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,  if you love one another. (NIV)

 Another day is beginning, and God invites us to take love into account. But not erotic or filial love, but rather Agape, the love of God, the love that makes it so we may do the impossible to attain the objectives and goals we desire, the love that makes us love the unknown and the outsider.   

 In short, God is love; that is, he makes himself visible in our expressions, actions, and the works we undertake with love. Hence his invitation to be consistent with this reality and express who we are through our journey.   

 On being God’s disciple, being Christ’s follower implies a series of responsibilities, commitment and dedication to take into account our daily roles. It implies obeying his teachings and commandments. It implies that our whole life be a living gospel.

Therefore, let us meditate in silence as to what we are doing today to be Jesus’ reflection in our neighborhoods and places of work and study, including what concrete actions move us to be the reflection of God in the center of our homes and relationships, without forgetting that we should pray, visit, encourage, and give hope and love amidst the storms of life.  

 

Prayer: Our Father, allow our actions to invite others to follow you. Amen.

EVANGELIO VIVO

I JUAN 4:7-11

“Si se aman unos a otros, todos se darán cuenta de que son mis discípulos”

Jn 13:35

             Otro día que comienza y Dios nos invita a tener en cuenta el Amor. Pero no el Amor EROS o FILIO sino el amor AGAPE, el amor de Dios. El amor que hace que hagamos lo imposible por alcanzar los propósitos y metas que anhelamos. El amor que nos hace amar lo desconocido y al extraño. En pocas palabras, Dios es Amor, o sea, se hace visible en nuestras expresiones, acciones y obras que realizamos con amor. De ahí su invitación a ser consecuentes con esta realidad y expresar quiénes somos a través de nuestro andar.

             El ser discípulo de Dios, el ser un seguidor de Cristo, implica una serie de responsabilidades, compromiso y entrega a tener en cuenta en nuestros roles cotidianos. Implica obedecer sus enseñanzas y mandatos. Implica que toda nuestra vida sea un Evangelio Vivo. Por eso, meditemos en silencio qué estamos haciendo hoy para ser el reflejo de Jesús en nuestros barrios, centros de trabajo o de estudio. Incluso, qué acciones concretas nos mueven para ser el reflejo de Dios en el centro de nuestros hogares y de nuestras relaciones. Sin olvidar, que debemos orar, visitar, alentar, esperanzar y amar en medio de las tormentas de la vida.

  

Oración: Padre Nuestro permite que nuestras acciones conviden a otros a seguirte. Amén.
