1 TIMOTHY 5:1
“Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God…”
“Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God…”
Psalm 71:18
I wish to share with you parts of a letter that our apostle José
Martí wrote to his sister Amelia, in which he emphasizes the importance of
honoring our elders: “…you don’t know my Amelia, all the honor and the most
tender respect that our father deserves. There within the person you see
now, full of the whims of the elderly, is a man of extraordinary will.
Sweeten his life, [as you are the] smile of his old age…” Upon his father’s
death, he wrote to his friend Fermín: “ …you are not aware how I came to love
him once I came to know the wholeness and beauty of his soul beneath his humble
exterior; even I had underestimated that energetic and sober virtue…until my
own was put to the test…”
Why must we wait until our elderly are gone in order to realize their worth? If we listened to their advice, and if we gave them the affection, love, and respect that they deserve, we would then come to know the delight of those white hairs.
Why must we wait until our elderly are gone in order to realize their worth? If we listened to their advice, and if we gave them the affection, love, and respect that they deserve, we would then come to know the delight of those white hairs.
“There is nothing more beautiful than loving the elderly. Respect is the sweetest of pleasures.” (José Martí)
Prayer: Lord, give us understanding hearts in order to care for our elderly and hands that are ready to help one another in times of need, even in the sunset of our lives. Amen.
¡EL ENCANTO DE LOS CABELLOS BLANCOS!
1 TIMOTEO 5:1
“Aun en la vejez y las canas,
oh Dios no me desampares”
Salmo 71:18
