THE
TESTING OF OUR FAITH
JAMES 1:1-8
“…because you know that the testing of your
faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you
may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
James 1:3-4
When I was little I used to sit and watch my
mother as she ironed our clothes. She
would take the wrinkled and somewhat damp shirts out of the basket. The
combination of the iron’s heat and pressure would remove even the strongest
wrinkles; wrinkles that I thought could never be ironed out.
We dislike having to go
through difficult times. Nobody likes it. When a family has to deal with a
long-term illness, or when we are experiencing unemployment and have trouble
finding a new job, or when we make poor decisions which create difficulties in
our personal relationships with others. But let us consider this: every time that we go through a period such
as this with our faith still intact and with our trust in the Lord remaining
firm, we emerge from it as better and stronger individuals. God can remove the wrinkles from our lives.
We should actually rejoice, because this is the way that God applies heat and
pressure in order to “remove our wrinkles.”
Prayer: Holy Father, may your protective hand take care of us in our times
of suffering. We ask you in the name of
Jesus. Amen.
LA PRUEBA DE FE
SANTIAGO 1:1-8
“La prueba de vuestra fe
produce paciencia.
Más tenga la paciencia su
obra completa”
Santiago 1:3-4
De niño solía sentarme y
contemplar a mi madre planchando ropa. Sacaba del cesto las camisas arrugadas y
algo húmedas. La combinación del calor y la presión de la plancha estiraban las
arrugas más fuertes, arrugas que yo pensaba que no podrían ser eliminadas. No
nos gusta cuando tenemos que pasar por temporadas difíciles. A nadie le gusta.
Cuando la familia tiene que afrontar una enfermedad a largo plazo, cuando nos
encontramos desempleados y tenemos problemas en encontrar otro trabajo, cuando
tomamos decisiones erradas que dificultan nuestras relaciones con los demás.
Pero pensemos esto: siempre que pasamos por un tiempo así con nuestra fe
intacta y nuestra confianza puesta firmemente en el Señor, salimos de ello
mejores y mas fuertes. Dios puede quitar las arrugas de nuestra vida. Realmente
deberíamos regocijarnos, porque es la manera que Dios tiene de aplicar calor y
presión para poder “quitarnos las arrugas”.
Oración: Padre Santo, que tu mano
protectora cuide de nosotros en el momento del sufrimiento. Te lo pedimos en el
nombre de Jesús, Amén.
