BECAUSE THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

Mark 2:23-28

“Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”

Mark 2:27

There are times when certain rules tie us down in such a way that we cannot even breathe.  And it often happens, even though it may appear strange, that we don’t even question ourselves or wonder why such laws or rules have been established.  It was not the same with Jesus.  In every instance he insisted on his right to express himself and to do what he felt was needed and right, and this always brought him consequences that committed him even further to his mission: preaching about the kingdom of God.

When we are facing situations in which, for the sake of following a certain custom, we ignore others, we disrespect their feelings, we destroy their dreams and their hopes… let us then remember Jesus himself, who did not lend legitimacy  to mere formalities. He qualified as hypocrites those persons and institutions that assumed the privilege of judging others when they themselves were in reality the executors of the actions they were condemning. 

We should follow the steps of our Teacher and confront all that makes an attempt on Life.  Let us walk confidently next to Jesus on the path of righteousness and love, knowing that the Law of the Lord is perfect, and that it has been revealed to us through the actions and teachings of the name above all names:  Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Lord, help us to feel sufficiently on target in order to determine the right thing to do in each situation that we experience. Amen.

Qué es lo más importante

Marcos 2:23-28

“Y les dijo: «El sábado ha sido instituido para el hombre

y no el hombre para el sábado»”

Hay ocasiones en que ciertas normas nos atan de tal manera que ni siquiera podemos respirar. Y algo común, aunque parezca extraño, es que muchas veces ni siquiera cuestionamos o nos preguntamos por qué han sido establecidas tales leyes o normativas. Con Jesús no ocurría igual. Él en todo momento hizo valer su derecho de expresarse y hacer lo que estimara necesario y bueno, y esto siempre le trajo consecuencias que lo comprometían aún más con su misión: la prédica del reino de Dios.

Cuando nos enfrentamos a situaciones en que por atender a cierta costumbre o ley pasamos por encima de las personas, irrespetamos sus sentimientos, destruimos sueños y esperanzas… entonces recordemos al propio Jesús, que no admitió legitimidad en los meros formalismos. Él calificó de hipócritas a las personas e instituciones que se tomaban el privilegio de juzgar a los demás siendo en realidad ellas mismas ejecutoras de las acciones que condenaban.

Debemos seguir los pasos de nuestro Maestro y enfrentar todo aquello que atente contra la Vida. Caminemos confiados junto a Jesús en el sendero de la justicia y el amor, sabiendo que la Ley de Yahvé es  perfecta, y ella nos ha sido revelada a través de los actos y enseñanzas de quien es sobre todo nombre: Jesucristo.

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a ser lo suficientemente atinados para determinar qué es lo justo en cada situación que vivamos. Amén.
