THE SIGN FOR THE SHEPHERDS

LuKE 2:8-20

“…and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”

Luke 2:18

The professions that imply sacrificing sleep are very difficult. Such would have been the case for those shepherds in the gospel story at a time as important as the birth of Jesus.  In addition to the obvious sign of God’s humility upon revealing the memorable birth to them first, it is also important to remember the shepherds’ diligence in communicating this news to other people.  With this, they became the first evangelists.  Surely their commentary about these transcendent events were made with great vehemence, with passion and conviction since, as we read in today’s golden verses, everyone who heard them was amazed.

In our world today, we too should be attentive to God’s signs.  We should be “on guard” for what we need to do: transmitting the values of God’s kingdom, taking the good news about Jesus to others, drawing nearer to God through our personal and communal devotions, and committing ourselves to the care of God’s Creation… In this way and in this way alone will we be able to receive the best news from God, like those shepherds. Only then will we be able to make known to others the good news of God among ourselves in such a way that they will be amazed.

Prayer: God of Goodness, we thank you for your revelation in humbleness and we ask that you make our commitment grow in order to transmit your good news to others.  Amen.

La señal a los pastores

Lucas 2:8-20

“Y todos los que oyeron,

se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.”

Lucas 2:18

Son muy duras las profesiones que implican el sacrificio del sueño.  Así pasaría con aquellos pastores de los cuales nos relata el evangelio en tan importante momento como el nacimiento de Jesús. Además del evidente signo de la humildad de Dios al revelarles a ellos la primicia del memorable nacimiento, también resulta importante reconocer cómo los pastores son diligentes en comunicar esta noticia a otras personas. Con esto, se convertían en los primeros evangelizadores. Seguramente al comentar estos trascendentes hechos lo hacían con gran vehemencia, con pasión y convencimiento, pues tal como hemos leído en el texto áureo de hoy, quienes los escuchaban quedaban maravillados.

Hoy en día, también debemos estar atentos y atentas a las señales de Dios. Debemos estar “en vela” al cuidado de lo que nos corresponde: trasmitir los valores del reino de Dios, llevar a otros la buena noticia de Jesús, acercarnos más a Dios a través de nuestras devociones personales y comunitarias, comprometernos con el cuidado de la Creación de Dios… Así y sólo así estaremos aptos para recibir de Dios las mejores noticias como aquellos pastores. Sólo así, podremos hacer conocer a otros la buena noticia de Dios entre nosotros de tal manera que queden maravillados.

Oración: Dios Bendito, te agradecemos tu revelación en humildad y te pedimos que crezca nuestro compromiso con transmitir tu buena noticia a otros y otras. Amén.
