FOLLOWING THE RIGHT PATH

JONAH

“Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.”

Jonah 3:2

At times we lose the meaning of life.  Many people walk in circles and their lives do not move forward much. The story of Jonah speaks of a man who one day found himself in such a situation. Jonah seemed to have lost his way; he lacked perspective.

Like Jonah, we often lose our way, or stray off from the right path.  Sometimes we think that everything is against us:  the boat won’t go anywhere, the wind is blowing in the wrong direction.  Luck is definitely not in our favor.  At times we even want to die (v. 12).  Without perspective, as with Jonah, we give up; we cease to believe.

And yet Jonah knows the truth; he knows what he needs to do but he wants to deviate from the path that God has indicated to him. Like Jonah, we choose the wrong direction and we fall into the deepness of the abyss. But God tells us:  stop; change your course; seek the way of my star.

Prayer: Our God, help us to follow the new life that Jesus came to offer us when he was born in Bethlehem.  Help us to be able to understand your signals.  Forgive us when we get detoured off your paths in order to continue imprisoned by our preconceptions. We want to be not only listeners but also doers of your Word.

SIGUIENDO EL CAMINO INDICADO

JONÁS

“Anda vete a la gran ciudad de Nínive

y anuncia lo que te voy a decir”

Jonás  3:2

A veces perdemos el sentido de la vida. Muchas personas andan en círculos y sus vidas no avanzan mucho. La historia de Jonás habla de un hombre que un día se vio en esa situación. Jonás parecía estar sin rumbo, sin perspectiva.

Muchas veces, al igual que Jonás, no tomamos el camino indicado. A veces pensamos que todo está contra nosotros: el barco no anda, el viento va contrario. Definitivamente la suerte no está a nuestro favor. A veces hasta podríamos echarnos a morir (v.12). Sin perspectiva, al igual que Jonás, desistimos de luchar, de creer.

Sin embargo, Jonás sabe la verdad, sabe lo que tiene que hacer pero quiere desviarse del camino que Dios le ha indicado. Igual a Jonás, optamos por el camino equivocado y caemos en las profundidades del abismo.  Pero Dios nos dice: para, cambia la dirección, busca el rumbo de mi estrella.

Oración: Dios nuestro, ayúdanos a seguir la vida nueva que Jesús, al nacer en Belén, nos vino a ofrecer. Ayúdanos a ser capaces de comprender tus señales.  Perdónanos cuando nos desviamos de tus caminos por seguir encerrados en nuestros preconceptos. Queremos ser  no solamente oidores, sino también hacedores de tu Palabra.
