Celebration of the Dependent Church of Manguito (San José de los Ramos)

JOY TO THE WORLD!

MATTHEW 5:1-12

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

Matthew 5:5

Carlos is an elderly member of our congregation who never misses a single church event. One particularly rainy night he was the only person present at the start of the bible study.  That day he confessed to me that he lives by himself and that if he doesn’t come to Church he gets bored.  At first I did not at all care for his frank admission: coming to church in order to avoid boredom?  I rapidly fell into judging this brother.  Every time I saw him at a worship service, I had the same thought—he’s coming because he has nothing better to do.

Remembering this happy Christmas carol made me think of Brother Carlos. Would Christmas be a happy time for him? I asked God to forgive me for judging his son Carlos and I prayed fervently for those human beings who most need you, me, all of us, in order to have a merry Christmas.

A few days later I heard that Carlos had spent Christmas with a Christian family who had invited him for dinner and later they all joined in our Christmas Service at our Church.

Prayer:  Lord, we pray for the elderly, the sick, and the lonely in this time of Advent and Christmas. We thank you for the years they have lived and pray that they may continue to count on your company at each moment. Amen.

¡OH SANTÍSIMO, FELICÍSIMO!

MATEO  5:1-12

“Dichosos los humildes, porque heredarán la tierra prometida”

Mateo 5:5

Carlos es un anciano de nuestra Iglesia que no falta a ninguna actividad. Cierta noche muy lluviosa sólo él estaba presente para comenzar el estudio bíblico. Ese día me confesó, que vive solo y si no viene a la Iglesia se aburre. Al principio no me gustó nada su franca expresión, ¿venir a la Iglesia por no aburrirse? Rápidamente comencé a juzgar al hermano. Cada vez que lo veía en un Culto, pensaba lo mismo –viene porque no tiene otra cosa mejor que hacer.

Recordando este alegre villancico pensé en el hermano Carlos, ¿Sería para él, grato el tiempo de Navidad? Pedí perdón a Dios por juzgar a su hijo Carlos y oré mucho por todos aquellos seres humanos que necesitan de ti, de mí, de todos, para pasar realmente un grato tiempo de Navidad.

Días después supe que Carlos pasó la Navidad junto a una familia cristiana que le invitó a cenar y luego participaron todos juntos del Culto de Navidad en nuestra Iglesia.

Oración: Te pedimos Señor, por los ancianos, enfermos y solitarios en este tiempo de Adviento y Navidad. Te agradecemos por sus años vividos y permite que puedan seguir contando con tu compañía en cada momento. Amén,
