Matthew 2.1-12

“…and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.”

At Christmastime, as we recall the most highlighted characters surrounding the birth of Jesus, the Wise Men of the Orient rapidly come to mind.  With a marked accent of universality, the visit to Bethlehem made by these enigmatic figures also reminds us that even if we get detoured or lost on the journey that God draws for us toward Jesus, we always have the opportunity to acknowledge which is the true pathway, without getting waylaid by powers that corrode, that terrorize, that curtail, that kill.

Today, like the Magi, we can be asking ourselves why we choose to dwell in the magnificent palaces that life offers us:  the palaces of selfishness, of violence, of discrimination and intolerance, of indolence, of avarice… However, also like the Magi, we can choose to allow ourselves to “be guided” not only by the star leading us to the good news, but also to change course in order to not play the games of the Herods of our time, who abuse their powers for ruin, trying in vain to impede the definitive establishment of God’s kingdom.

Allowing ourselves to be guided by God, being attentive to his voice, is the calling that we receive from Him each day.  That is the star that should guide each of our steps throughout this life that He has gifted to us.

Prayer: God of goodness, make us obedient to your calling so that it is your hand that guides us in this life. Amen.

Dejarse guiar

Mateo 2.1-12

Cuando recordamos en este tiempo de navidad los personajes más destacados alrededor del nacimiento de Jesús, los sabios del oriente vienen rápidamente a nuestra mente. Con un marcado acento de universalidad, la visita a Belén de estas enigmáticas figuras también nos recuerdan que aunque podemos estar equivocados en los caminos de que Dios nos traza para llegar hasta Jesús, siempre tenemos la oportunidad para reconocer cuál es la senda verdadera, y no complotarnos con los poderes que corroen, que tiemblan, que cercenan, que matan.

Hoy como los sabios, podemos estar buscando nuestra razón de vivir en los suntuosos palacios que la vida nos ofrece: los palacios del egoísmo, de la violencia, de las discriminaciones e intolerancias, de la indolencia, de la avaricia… Sin embargo, también como aquellos sabios, podemos escoger “dejarnos guiar” no sólo por la estrella hasta la buena noticia, sino cambiar de camino para no seguirle el juego a los Herodes de este tiempo, que detentan sus poderes para perdición, tratando en vano de impedir la instauración definitiva del reino de Dios.

Dejarnos guiar por Dios, estar atentos y atentas a su voz, es el llamado que recibimos de Él cada día. Esa es la estrella que debe guiar cada paso nuestro por esta vida que Él nos ha regalado.

Oración: Dios bueno, haznos dóciles a tu llamado para que sea tu mano quien nos guíe en esta vida. Amén.
