A DESTRUCTIVE HABIT

Psalm 141

Set a guard over my mouth, Lord, keep watch over the door of my lips.  (NIV)

Psalm 141:3

            Why are humans tempted to gossip? The answer is very simple: our own sinful nature encourages us. Besides that, the evil one is very clever, and knows how to use an innocent situation or word to destroy relationships. Gossip can do great damage, even ruin a person’s integrity and honor. 

            In any relation, if we permit the bad habit of discussing misunderstandings that arise with others to interfere, we are opening an enormous breach to destroy our lives. 

            To avoid certain problems, people should resolve their conflicts talking among themselves, not involving third parties with malicious rumors. When problems between two people are resolved in the intimacy of that relation, trust and love among its members increases.  

            Let’s not forget that we are totally able to resist the temptation to either start or spread gossip. Let’s not forget that that is not an innocent custom either, but just the contrary, it’s a sin. God wants us to dwell on all that’s true, on all that merits respect, on all that which is just and good (Philippians 4:8). 

 

Prayer: Beloved Lord, do not allow us to fall in this ugly habit that causes so much damage.  Amen.

UN HABITO DESTRUCTIVO

SALMO 141

Dios mío, no me dejes decir ni una sola tontería

Salmo 141:3

            ¿Por qué el ser humano es tentado a contar chismes? La respuesta es muy simple: nuestra propia naturaleza pecaminosa nos incentiva. Además de eso, el maligno es muy sagaz y sabe usar una situación o palabra inocente para destruir relaciones. Los chismes pueden causar mucho daño, incluso arruinar la integridad y el honor de una persona.

            En cualquier relación, si dejamos que interfiera el mal hábito de comentar con los demás los malentendidos que surgen, estamos abriendo una enorme brecha para destruir nuestras vidas.

            Para evitar ciertos problemas, las personas deben  resolver sus conflictos conversando entre sí, no involucrando a terceros con malintencionados rumores. Cuando los problemas de dos son resueltos en la intimidad de esa relación, crece la confianza y el amor entre sus miembros.

            No olvidemos que somos totalmente capaces de resistir la tentación de originar o divulgar un chisme. No olvidemos tampoco que esa no es una costumbre inocente, sino por el contrario, es un pecado. Dios quiere que nos detengamos en todo lo que es verdadero, en todo lo que merece respeto, en todo lo que es justo y bueno (Fil 4:8).

 

Oración: Amado Señor, no nos permitas caer en este hábito tan feo y que tanto daño causa. Amén.
