PERSISTENCE

Luke 18: 1-8

And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?  (NIV)

Luke 18:7

            Are there unscrupulous people in the world? Yes, everything they do is for their own benefit and ambition. Thus was the person who accused the widow in the verses of this story. A poor and defenseless woman was about to be evicted from her home because of her debts. He treated her unfairly after countless times testifying before a judge, but she got the judge to listen to her and consider her cause, doing her justice.

            The parable does not claim that the value of prayer lies in insisting to the extent of causing annoyance. But it does exhort us to be patient and tenacious with what we should pray. A key is the attitude of the widow, with her great disposition and her effort to persevere she did not let her faith fail.

            Sad, happy, or worried, let us come to pray with our whole being, aware of that direct communication with God. And we will get the answers, one way or another. Let us pray in communication with others, for personal reasons as well as those of others, for the path that we are traveling together.

 

Prayer: Lord, may we be persistent in the situations we face in life, praying to you, trusting in your justice. Amen.

LA PERSISTENCIA

Lucas 18: 1-8

¿Y no hará Dios justicia a sus escogidos, que claman a Él día y noche? ¿Se tardará mucho en responderles?

            ¿En el mundo existen personas sin escrúpulos? Sí, todo cuanto hacen es para su propio beneficio y ambición. Así era quien acusaba a la viuda en la historia de estos versículos.

            Una mujer, pobre y desamparada por la sociedad, estaba a punto de ser expulsada de su casa a causa de sus deudas. Tratada injustamente, tras remitirse incontables veces ante un juez, consiguió que éste la atendiera y considerara su causa, haciéndole justicia.

            La parábola no reclama que el valor de la oración esté en insistir hasta el extremo de causar molestia. Pero sí nos exhorta a la persistencia y a la tenacidad con la que debemos orar. Una clave es la actitud de la viuda, con su gran disposición y esfuerzo en perseverar no dejó caer la fe.

            Tristes, alegres o preocupados, acerquémonos a orar con todo nuestro ser, conscientes de esa comunión directa con Dios. Y obtendremos las respuestas, de una forma u otra. Oremos en comunicación con los demás, por los motivos personales y los de los demáás también, por el camino que estamos recorriendo juntos.

 

Oración: Señor, permite que podamos ser persistentes ante las situaciones que enfrentamos en la vida, orando a ti, confiando en tu justicia. Amén.
