SYMBOL OF LOVE

Luke 21:5-9

“As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.”

Luke 21:6 (NRSV)

            The Jerusalem Temple in antiquity was one of the buildings of great richness and splendor. For the Jews, the Temple was symbolic of identity and unity. It represented the inflexibility, the strength, and the stability of a kingdom, and the very thought that it could be destroyed must have represented the greatest horror.  On the other hand, Jesus’ interest was in assuring his disciples that the destiny of his people and of his future Kingdom was not connected to nor dependent on the Temple. For Jesus, the most important thing was not the building; the most precious were the people and the consequences of their actions.

            Sometimes, we prioritize personal interests, leaving other people at a disadvantage, and creating empty places in our lives. In this way we are building new temples without realizing that our whole life must revolve around the experiences of a simple faith and that those experiences are our most precious symbol because they move us closer to a sincere encounter with others and with Jesus.

 

Prayer: Lord, help us to identify the temples which we raise within and allow us to be able to convert them into experiences of solidarity and love with those who surround us. Amen.

SÎMBOLO DE AMOR.

Lucas 21:5-9

En cuanto a estas cosas que ustedes están mirando, vendrán días en que no quedaráá piedra sobre piedra que no sea derribada.

Lucas 21:6

            El templo de Jerusalén era una de las edificaciones de mayor riqueza y esplendor de la antigüedad. Para los judíos, el templo era símbolo de identidad y unidad. Éste representaba la rigidez, la fortaleza y la estabilidad de un reino,  y el sólo pensar que sería destruido debió significar el más grande horror. En cambio, el interés de Jesús consistía en asegurarles a sus discípulos que el destino de su pueblo y el de su Reino futuro, no estaba vinculado, ni dependía del templo. Para Jesús lo más importante no era el edificio, lo más preciado son las personas y las consecuencias de sus acciones. 

            En ocasiones priorizamos los intereses personales dejando en desventaja a otras personas, incluso espacios de nuestras vidas. De esa manera estamos construyendo nuevos templos sin percatarnos que toda nuestra vida debe girar alrededor de las experiencias de fe sencilla y que esas experiencias son nuestro símbolo más precioso, porque nos impulsan al encuentro sincero con los demás y con Jesús.

 

Oración: Ayúdanos Señor a identificar los templos que llevamos dentro y permite que podamos convertirlos en experiencias de solidaridad y amor con quienes nos rodean. Amén.
