 THE CURE FOR RESENTFULNESS

JOHN 21:18-25

“Jesus answered, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.’”

John 21:22

We might agree with the statement that “all persons are created equal.”  But we don’t have to live long to discover that life treats some people better than it treats others. This is something that we must learn to accept without resentment.  The inequalities of life are seen at many different levels.  Some people enjoy good health, others do not.  Some work very hard and remain poor, while others are born wealthy or everything just seems to go their way…

When Jesus told Peter the manner in which he was going to die, Peter asked what would happen to John, his co-disciple. He seemed to think that it was not fair that John wouldn’t die in the same manner. But Jesus told him that what happened to John was not Peter’s business.  It was God’s decision.  Peter’s responsibility was simple: to follow Christ.

If looking at others makes you experience resentfulness for the injustices in life, change your perspective.  Look at Jesus and follow him. Life’s injustices are for only a brief period of time.  Perfect justice awaits us for our eternal enjoyment. Resentment comes from looking at others; contentment comes from looking at God.

Prayer: Lord, help us to not waste our days in this harmful sentiment which is resentfulness. Amen.

 CURA PARA EL RESENTIMIENTO

JUAN 21:18-25

“Jesús le dijo: Si yo quiero que  él se quede

hasta que yo  venga, ¿a ti, qué? Tú sígueme”

Tal vez estemos de acuerdo con la afirmación de que “todas las personas son creadas iguales”. Pero no tenemos que vivir mucho tiempo para descubrir que la vida trata a algunas personas mejor que a otras. Esto es algo que debemos aprender a aceptar sin resentimiento. Las desigualdades de la vida se ven en muchos niveles diferentes. Algunas personas disfrutan de buena salud, otras no. Algunas trabajan arduamente  y siguen siendo pobres, mientras que otras nacen en la riqueza o parece que todo les sale bien...

Cuando Jesús anunció a Pedro que iba a morir, Pedro preguntó que sucedería con Juan, su condiscípulo. Parecía creer que no era justo que Juan no muriera de la misma forma. Pero Jesús le dijo que lo que le sucediera a Juan  no era asunto de Pedro. Esa era decisión de Dios. La responsabilidad de Pedro era simple: seguir a Cristo.

Si el mirar a los demás  te hace sentir  resentimiento por las injusticias de la vida, cambia de perspectiva. Mira a Jesús y síguelo. Las injusticias de la vida son sólo por un poco de tiempo. La justicia perfecta será nuestra para disfrutarla por siempre. El resentimiento viene de mirar a los demás, el contentamiento viene de mirar a Dios.

Oración: Permite Señor, que no malgastemos nuestros días en  ese sentimiento dañino que es el resentimiento. Amén.
