LET GOD DO HIS WORK

1 CORINTHIANS 3:1-11

“So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.”

1 Corinthians 3:7

In our zeal to serve the Lord it is easy to think that we have the responsibility to produce results. This makes us place too much faith in our own ability and too little faith God.  Paul observed this tendency in the Corinthian Church.  Some of the believers praised Paul’s ministry to plant seeds in the faith, while others favored Apollo’s ministry, which was to water those seeds.  Paul reminded them that it is God who makes the seed produce fruits.

Imagine a farmer sitting on the front porch of his house.  You ask him:  What do you do? And he replies: I work the earth. You ask him: What do you harvest?  He answers: Wheat. Then you reply: But your fields look neither ploughed nor sown. Aren’t you supposed to be doing something? And the farmer replies: Exactly. That’s what I’m doing; I’m praying and believing.

This story reminds me that God does not do our work for us.  The best way to serve is by faithfully planting and watering the seed. Then we have to trust the results to God. We can plant the seed, but only God can make it produce fruit.

Prayer: Father, we pray that you will give us the strength to act and to hope in you. Amen.

 DEJA QUE DIOS HAGA SU OBRA

1 CORINTIOS  3:1-11

“Así que ni el que planta, ni el que riega es algo,

sino Dios que da el crecimiento”

En nuestro celo por servir al Señor es fácil pensar que tenemos la responsabilidad de producir resultados. Esto nos hace poner demasiada fe en nuestra habilidad y muy poca en Dios. Pablo observó esta tendencia en la Iglesia de Corinto. Ciertos creyentes ensalzaban el ministerio de Pablo de sembrar las semillas de la fe, mientras que otros favorecían el de Apolos, el cual las regaba. Pablo les recordó que es Dios quien hace que la semilla dé frutos.

Imagínate un agricultor sentado en el pórtico de su casa. Le preguntas: ¿Qué haces? Y él contesta: Labrar la tierra. Le preguntas: ¿Qué cosechas? Él contesta: Trigo. Entonces le replicas: Pero sus campos no se ven arados ni sembrados, ¿no debería usted estar haciendo algo? Y él contesta: Así es, lo estoy haciendo, estoy orando y creyendo.

Esta historia me recuerda que Dios no hará la obra por nosotros. La mejor manera de servir es sembrando fielmente y regando la semilla. Luego hay que confiar los resultados a Dios. Nosotros podemos sembrar la semilla, pero sólo Dios puede dar la cosecha.
