REJOICE, GIVE THANKS, AND SING

1 THESSALONIANS 5:12-24

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances...”

1Thessalonians 5:16-18

An old legend tells us that two angels were sent to earth to gather the prayers offered up by humans.  The first angel returned burdened with complaints and requests.  The second angel was only able to pick up a few expressions of thankfulness and gratitude.

This reveals a very marked tendency.  People are more predisposed to complain than to rejoice and to give thanks.

There are plenty of reasons for which to always be joyful and to praise God, given that He pours out abundant blessings upon us. We must give the tribute of our gratitude to God for everything that is beautiful, good, and enduring. We must praise him for light and for the wind, “for eyes that contemplate the invisible and ears that perceive celestial harmonies”.  Above all else, we must be joyful and give thanks for the supreme gift of his love, expressed in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.  

Prayer: Lord, allow our daily actions to be a hymn of praise and gratitude to you. Amen.

Una antigua leyenda dice que dos ángeles fueron enviados a la tierra para recoger las oraciones de los humanos. El primero regresó cargado de quejas y peticiones. El segundo sólo pudo recoger unas escasas expresiones de reconocimiento y gratitud.

Esto revela una tendencia muy marcada. La gente está más dispuesta a quejarse que a regocijarse y dar gracias.

Sobran motivos por los cuales estar siempre gozosos y alabar a Dios, puesto que Él derrama sobre nosotros abundantes bendiciones. Hemos de tributarle nuestra gratitud a Dios por todo lo bello, lo bueno, lo perdurable. Hemos de alabarle por la luz y por el viento “por ojos que contemplan lo invisible y oídos que perciben armonías celestiales”. Sobre todo, hemos de estar gozosos y dar gracias por el don supremo de su amor, expresado en la encarnación de Jesucristo, nuestro Redentor.

Oración: Señor, permite que nuestras acciones diarias sean un himno de alabanza y gratitud a ti. Amén.
