A GLASS OF COLD WATER
MATTHEW 10: 40-42
“And if anyone
gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my
disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward. “
Matthew 10: 42
The
Lord Jesus paid attention to the small acts of daily living: where to place a lamp so that it would give
more light; the poor widow’s offering; the beauty of the flowers of the field…It
would be interesting to read the gospels from the perspective of something
small.
This passage demonstrates
the interest that Jesus had for the small and simple things in life. No doubt a
glass of cold water during one of our hot summers is the best gift that one can
give a person who has come to us on foot.
The act of offering that water without even being asked shows our
sensibility and our concern for others. A simple glass of cold water can
indicate to us the greatness of the person who offers it, the grandeur of
something small.
Many parents make a great
effort to buy costly gifts for their children and they forget what is most
important: giving them a warm embrace in the morning, a kiss at bedtime or an
affectionate word when they have completed a chore. We all have a great need for small acts of
love in our daily lives!
Prayer: Lord, teach us to notice the
small acts of love in life. Amen.
UN VASO
DE AGUA FRÍA
MATEO 10: 40-42
“Y cualquiera que dé a uno de estos pequeñitos
un vaso de agua fría solamente, por cuanto
es discípulo,
de cierto os digo que no perderá su
recompensa... “
Mateo. 10: 42
El Señor Jesús se fijaba en los pequeños actos de la
vida cotidiana: el lugar de colocar una luz para que brillara más, la ofrenda
de la viuda pobre, la belleza de las flores del campo... Sería interesante leer los evangelios desde
una perspectiva de lo pequeño.
Este
texto es una demostración del interés de Jesús por las cosas pequeñas y
sencillas de la vida. Sin duda que un vaso de agua fría en nuestro verano
caluroso es el mejor regalo que puede darse a una persona que venga de camino.
Ser capaz de ofrecer el agua aún sin que se nos pida, denota nuestra
sensibilidad y nuestra preocupación por los demás. Un simple vaso de agua puede
indicarnos la grandeza de quien la ofrece, la grandeza de lo pequeño.
Muchos
padres se esfuerzan por comprarle regalos costosos a los hijos y se olvidan de
lo más importante, darle un abrazo tibio en la mañana, un beso al acostarse o
una frase cariñosa al ejecutar una tarea. ¡Cuánta necesidad tenemos todos y
todas de pequeños actos de amor en la vida diaria!
Oración: Señor,
enséñanos a fijarnos en los pequeños actos de la vida. Amén.
