THE GLORY OF GOD
JOHN 5:30-47
“How can you believe if you accept praise
from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the
only God?”

A few months ago a brand new book fell into
my hands that gathered some of the sermons and the chronicles of a famous
contemporary preacher who had “converted” thousands of people. On the cover stood the title of course, followed
by information about the protagonist—the preacher, in other words—speaking in
front of thousands of people: the quarry
from which came his thousands of “conversions”.
The question I’ve been pondering to this
day is: whose glory is being shown, that
of the crucified person who transforms people’s lives or that of this man who
preached for a glory that doesn’t belong to him?
In order to emulate Christ we have to climb
up Mount Calvary. If we lose sight of
our condition as instruments in God’s hands and of our function as witnesses of
Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, I believe that we have knocked on the wrong door.
Our glory comes from glorifying God and
giving testimony of his power and saving grace.
Prayer: Help us, oh God, to diminish so that you will grow. Amen.
LA GLORIA DE DIOS
JUAN 5:30-47

gloria que viene del Dios único?”

Hace
unos meses cayó en mis manos un flamante libro que recogía algunos sermones y
crónicas de un célebre predicador contemporáneo que había “convertido” a miles
de personas. En la portada, desde luego, estaba el título seguido de datos
sobre el protagonista – o sea, el
predicador – hablando ante miles de personas. La cantera de las que salían sus
millares de “convertidos”.
La pregunta que me
he hecho hasta hoy: ¿qué gloria se quería mostrar, la del crucificado que
transforma la vida de las personas o la de este Señor que proclamaba para la
gloria que no le pertenece?
Para emular con
Cristo hay que escalar el monte Calvario. Si perdemos de vista nuestra
condición de instrumentos en las manos de Dios y nuestra función de testigos
del sacrificio de Jesucristo, creo que hemos tocado a una puerta equivocada.
Nuestra gloria está
en glorificar a Dios y dar testimonio de su poder y gracia salvadora.
Oración: Ayúdanos, oh Dios,
a menguar para que tú crezcas. Amén.
