THE CHURCH: A COMMUNITY OF CHRIST’S FOLLOWERS
LUKE 18:22-23
“You still lack one
thing. Sell everything you have and give
to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven…”
Luke 18:22
For some people, following Christ means having the gifts of the spirit:
love, faith, peace, gentleness, patience, etc. If that is the idea that we
offer the world as Christians, it is a rather nebulous idea.
The Christ we follow is not quiet, nor calm, nor
seated on his throne passively watching what happens in the world. The Christ we follow shows himself and works
in a world that cries out for justice, that cries out for each hungry person,
for each child who dies, in every mother who mourns.
The Church, if it is truly following Christ, also
has a great responsibility to fulfill in a world where some have much and
others have very little. It is in this world where we should practice
nonconformity with evil and orient our lives and our work towards seeking an equitable
distribution of material goods. This is,
in short, what it means to serve others.
Prayer: Lord,
grant that we may do your will and not our own. Amen.
LA IGLESIA: UNA COMUNIDAD
QUE SIGUE A CRISTO
LUCAS 18:22-23
“Aun te fala una cosa: vende todo lo que tienes
y dalo a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo…”

Para algunos seguir a Cristo es tener los dones del espíritu: amor, fe, paz,
mansedumbre, paciencia, etc.
Si
esa es la idea que ofrecemos al mundo como cristianos, es una idea bastante
nebulosa.
El
Cristo que seguimos no está callado, ni tranquilo, ni sentado en su trono
mirando pasivamente lo que ocurre en el mundo. El Cristo que seguimos se
muestra y trabaja en un mundo que clama
por la justicia, que clama en cada hambriento, en cada niño que muere, en
cada madre que llora.
La
Iglesia, si verdaderamente sigue a Cristo, tiene una gran responsabilidad
también que cumplir en un mundo donde
algunos tienen mucho y otros muy poco. Es en este mundo
donde debemos dar muestra de inconformidad con lo malo y orientar nuestras
vidas y nuestro trabajo hacia la búsqueda de una distribución equitativa de los
bienes materiales, que es en definitiva el servicio al prójimo.
Oración:
Señor, concédenos hacer tu voluntad y no la nuestra. Amén.
