RebeKAH: THE FASCINATING
ONE
GEnesis 24:63-67
“Not only that, but Rebekah’s children had one
and the same father, our father Isaac.”
Romans 9:10
One
possible translation for the name Rebekah is “fascinating”; but why
fascinating? What did this woman have
that was fascinating? It is said that
she was physically beautiful, but would that be the only reason?
This biblical story also tells us how kind she was to Abraham’s
servant. But there are many fascinating
features in the relationship that Rebekah had with her twin sons. The rearing and especially the education of
her sons are replete with fascination and responsibility.
The role of the family in the Christian community is very important. In ancient times we had communities in which
the great majority was made up of complete families in the Church. Today it is
hard to find a complete family. A great
part of the families in our society are reconstructed or dysfunctional.
There is a great challenge in our communities and for us as individuals,
to take into consideration the important role that the family holds in society,
but also in our churches.
Prayer: Lord, today I wish to meditate upon and pray for our families. We ask you to bless them. Amen.

Una posible traducción
del nombre Rebeca, significa fascinante; pero ¿por qué fascinante? ¿Qué tuvo de
fascinante esta mujer? Se habla de su belleza física, pero ¿sería sólo por eso?
El relato bíblico
también nos cuenta de lo amable que fue con el mayordomo de Abraham. Pero hay
mucho de fascinante en la relación que Rebeca mantuvo con sus hijos gemelos. La
crianza y sobre todo la educación de los hijos, tiene mucho de fascinante y de
responsabilidad.
El papel de la familia
en la comunidad cristiana es muy importante. Antiguamente teníamos comunidades
que en su gran mayoría estaba formada por familias completas en la Iglesia. Hoy
es difícil encontrar una familia completa. Una gran parte de las familias en
nuestra sociedad son reconstruidas o disfuncionales.
Hay un gran reto para
nuestras comunidades, y en lo individual para nosotros mismos, a que tomemos en
cuenta el papel tan importante que desempeña la familia en la sociedad, pero
también en nuestras iglesias.
Oración: Señor, hoy quiero
meditar y orar por nuestras familias. Te pedimos
que tu las bendigas. Amén
