UNITY: AN INDISPENSABLE VALUE

EPHESIANS 2:14-17

“…by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations”

Ephesians 2:15

A farmer had five sons who had very poor relationships among themselves.  They were never able to agree about anything, even when their father made every effort to reconcile them to one another. One day he brought them together and asked to be brought portions of rods and, having made them into one solid piece, asked them which one of them could dare to break it apart.  They all tried to do so, but not one of them was able to.  Then the father patiently undid the solid piece and taking each rod one after another, he showed them how easily they could be broken and said to them:  “My beloved sons, in the same way, if you are always united, no one will be able to defeat you, but if you are divided and resentful, the first person who wants to do harm to you will achieve it.”

God calls us and encourages us as his people, in the midst of our diversity, to experience the wonder that unity produces, as we recognize our need for one another. As the body of Christ, no single member will be able to fully accomplish his goal without the cooperation of one another.  The reconciliation and participation of one and all within the family as well as within the community is the conductive thread that unites and harmonizes our relationships.

Prayer: God of all life, give us a humble and forgiving spirit that we may be able to always be most willing to restore our relationships, reconciling ourselves to and loving one another. Amen.

LA UNIDAD, VALOR INDISPENSABLE

EFESIOS 2:14-17

“Cristo puso fin a la enemistad que había entre los dos grupos, y los unió,  formando así un solo pueblo que viviera en paz…”

Efesios 2: 15

Un campesino tenía cinco hijos con pésimas relaciones entre sí. No lograban ponerse de acuerdo en nada, aun cuando su padre se esforzaba con empeño en reconciliarlos. Los reunió un día  y mandó a traer una porción de varas haciéndolas un as, les pregunto cuál de ellos se atrevería a romperla. Todos se esforzaron por lograrlo, pero ninguno pudo conseguirlo. Entonces el padre pacientemente desató el as y tomando las varas una a una les mostró cuan fácilmente se partían y enseguida les dijo: “Hijos queridos, de esta manera si están siempre unidos, nadie podrá vencerlos, pero si están divididos y resentidos el primero que les quiera hacer mal lo logrará”.

Dios nos convoca y nos anima como pueblo suyo, en medio de nuestra diversidad,  a vivir la maravillosa experiencia  que produce la unidad, reconociéndonos necesarias y necesarios los unos de los otros. Como cuerpo de Cristo ningún miembro logrará a plenitud su función sin la cooperación de la otra y el otro. La reconciliación y la participación de  todas y todos en la familia como en la comunidad es el hilo conductor que une y armoniza nuestras relaciones.

Oración: Dios de toda vida, danos  espíritu humilde y perdonador de manera que podamos estar siempre en la mejor disposición de restaurar nuestras relaciones, reconciliándonos y amándonos los unos a los otros. Amén.
