Easter Sunday
RUNNING TOWARD JESUS
JOHn 20:1-10
Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the
tomb first.
John 20:4
This is the
famous race by Peter and John (the disciple whom Jesus loved) with the goal of
reaching a transcendental place in history:
the scene of the resurrection.
We can just imagine the emotion throughout the entire race. One of them, John, always loyal to his Teacher Jesus, even at the difficult moment of the cross, together with the Marys and the other women who, like him, courageously withstood discipleship beyond the dangers that this could bring them. The other one, Peter, always impetuous, filled with verve, but running with a heavy burden hanging over him: having denied Jesus at the precise moment of his mockery and crucifixion. Both of them ran, but in spite of being more intrepid, Peter’s great burden would not allow him to arrive first.

We should
ask ourselves at this time of Easter: in
our constant race in order to encounter Jesus, are we running upon light feet
like John, without shame or a pending account payable to Jesus? Or are we like
Peter, in a race of distress, in order to assume our responsibilities and make
up for our past errors? Regardless of the response, let us remember that the
important thing is not to lose our way.
Our eternal guide is the light of Jesus resurrected, beyond what we have
achieved, in our failures or our goals on the path of life and faith to which
Jesus has motivated us. It is very good to know that this race between John and
Peter confirmed the certainty of the resurrection. It is good that everything
that happens to us on the path of faith works toward securing our passage on
the race toward the certainty of the resurrection of Jesus the Christ.
Prayer: Oh God, may it be you
who inspires and sustains us in this beautiful and difficult race toward the
abundance of your eternal kingdom. Amen.
Domingo de Resurrección
Correr hacia Jesús
Juan 20:1-10
