THE ANONYMOUS MESSAGE

PHILIPPIANS 2:19-30

Go! This man is my chosen instrument to call my name…

Acts 9:15

In every cause there is an anonymous hero: he who through his own modesty or the injustice of others enters and departs from events without having been taken into account.  Epaphroditus is an example of this type of hero.

Who was he?  Where did he come from?  Where did he go?  These are all questions which no one has been able to fully answer.  We know only that he was in Philippi and completed the task of gathering the offerings needed in order to support the Apostle Paul.

But Paul speaks to us of another Epaphroditus: not the almost unknown historical character, but the militia companion, his brother in the Lord.

We will not always occupy the place to which we correspond in life, or receive the appreciation and recognition of others.  We can be “the one who at such an opportunity…,” which is no excuse for not conducting our lives according to the demands of our times.

The anonymous message may perhaps be best received in the Kingdom, where the best known and the famous and perhaps those at the tail end of “the line” at the Judgment Gate of the Kingdom will need to ask:  Are you the last one in line?

From the mercy you have received, be merciful. We have nothing but what we have received.  Anonymity may be a blessing from God.

Prayer: Lord, grant that we may be humble. Amen.

Ve porque instrumento escogido me

es éste para llevar mi nombre.

En toda causa existe el héroe anónimo; aquel que por modestia propia o injusticia de los demás entra y sale en los acontecimientos sin haber sido tomado en cuenta. Epafrodito es un ejemplo de este tipo de héroe.

¿Quién fue? ¿De dónde vino? ¿A dónde fue? Todas estas son preguntas que nadie ha podido contestar con plenitud. Sólo sabemos que estuvo en Filipos y cumplió la tarea de recoger las ofrendas necesarias para sostener al Apóstol Pablo.

Pero Pablo nos habla de otro Epafrodito, no ya el personaje histórico casi desconocido, sino el compañero de milicias, su hermano en el Señor.

No siempre vamos a ocupar el lugar que nos corresponde en la vida; con el aprecio y reconocimiento de los demás. Podemos ser “uno que en tal oportunidad…”, lo cual no es excusa para que no vivamos y actuemos a lo que demanda nuestros tiempos.

El mensaje anónimo puede que sea mejor recibido en el Reino, que los bien conocidos y famosos y quizás en la “cola” de los fallos en la puerta del Reino tengamos que decir: ¿Usted es el último?

De gracias recibisteis, dad de gracia. Nada tenemos que no hayamos recibido. El anonimato puede ser una bendición de Dios.
