“HOW MUCH ARE YOU WORTH TODAY?”

JOHN 15:1-13

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

The competent authorities have determined the price of a pound of the mineral called Colefarnio 292. At the present time a pound has reached the value of 450 million dollars, undoubtedly the highest price found in nature, because it may be used to fight cancer.  Two questions:  How many people need this mineral?  How many are able to purchase it in order to save one’s own life?  This world of ours has led us to understand the relative value of things. A philatelic collector just paid several thousands of dollars for an antique stamp to complete his collection. For me or for you, it may seem too much to put out 15 cents for a stamp.

For a lost soul, at times, a high price must be paid.  The Bible does not try to determine the value of a human being; it speaks to us of an expensive purchase.

It is possible that we will not be able to know how much we are worth today and even less so how much our neighbor is worth. It all depends on the place where we are or what we are doing. There is only one who gives up everything for us, even his life:  Jesus Christ.

How much we are worth or not worth does not matter to Jesus; He keeps giving up his life for us.

“¿CUÁNTO VALE USTED HOY?”

JUAN 15:1-13

Las autoridades competentes han puesto precio a una libra del mineral llamado Colefarnio 292. Actualmente la libra ha alcanzado el valor de 450 millones de dólares, sin dudas la cifra más alta encontrada en la naturaleza, pues puede ser un instrumento contra el cáncer. Dos preguntas: ¿Cuántos necesitan este mineral? ¿Cuántos pueden comprarlo para salvar sus vidas?

El mundo nuestro nos ha llevado a conocer el valor relativo. Un coleccionista filatélico acaba de dar unos cuantos miles de dólares por un sello antiguo con el cual él podía completar su colección. A usted o a mí puede parecernos caro pagar quince centavos por un sello.

Por un ser perdido, a veces, hay que pagar un alto precio. La Biblia no trata de determinar cuál es el valor de un ser humano, nos habla de una compra costosa.

Es posible que no reparemos cuánto valemos hoy y mucho menos cuánto vale nuestro prójimo. Todo depende del lugar en que estemos o qué estemos haciendo. Hay uno solo que lo da todo por nosotros, hasta la vida: Jesucristo.

Cuánto valemos o no, no importa para Jesús, Él sigue dando su vida por nosotros.
