A CORSICAN PATENT
PHILIPPIANS 3:8-14
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
II Corinthians 12:9
Some centuries ago people made use of what was called a “Corsican patent,”
which was nothing more than an authorization given to a ship by a specific
nation, in order to wage a war of violent robbery against any port or
boat. The Corsicans knew that they had a
nation behind them, a flag and a government who supported them.
We have often seen a Corsican patent given in the name of Christ. The list is long: the Crusades, the killing of St. Bartholomew,
the extermination of the natives in the conquest of America. Today
unfortunately by mandate of foreign deities, there are decapitations of anyone
who does not accept a particular belief.
The Lord is not an exterminating angel; rather, he offers us a new
disposition before life’s continual attacks.
Our problems remain the same, but we are now called to be different. We
are neither Corsicans nor pirates in the name of Christ. Our flag, our
nationality, our “patent” is the love and the sacrifice that he did not refuse
upon ascending Golgotha, vacating the tomb and reaching the glory of God. Let
us not forget his commandment: “…Go and make disciples.”
Prayer: Lord, help us to contribute toward making this
world into a better place. Amen.

Hace algunos siglos se
hizo uso de lo que se llamaba “patente de corso”; que no era más que una
autorización dada a un barco por una nación determinada, para hacer una guerra
de rapiña contra cualquier puerto o embarcación. El corsario sabía que detrás
de él habrá una nación, una bandera y un gobierno que lo respaldaba.
En no pocas veces hemos
visto dar una patente de corso en nombre de Cristo. La lista es larga: las
cruzadas, la matanza de San Bartolomé, el exterminio de los nativos en la
conquista de América. Hoy lamentablemente por mandato de deidades extrañas, se
decapita de forma masiva a todo el que no acepte una creencia determinada.
El Señor no es el ángel
exterminador; más bien nos ofrece una nueva disposición ante los continuos
ataques de la vida; los problemas sigue siendo los mismos, solo que nosotros
estamos llamados a ser distintos. No somos ni corsarios ni piratas en nombre de
Cristo.
Nuestra bandera, nuestra
nacionalidad, nuestra “patente”, es el amor y el sacrificio que no rehusó subir
al Gólgota, dejar la tumba vacía y alcanzar la gloria del Padre. No olvidemos
su mandato: “…Id y haced discípulo”.
Oración: Señor ayúdanos a
contribuir para hacer de este mundo un lugar mejor. Amén.
