GENUINE
LOVE
JOHN
13:1-15
Now that
I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one
another’s feet.
John 13:14
A shared table and spirituality; bread that has been blessed and
distributed; gestures of service and humility.
These are the words that come to mind when I think about Maundy
Thursday. On the evening before his
death, Jesus wanted to celebrate the Passover with his disciples. The Hebrew people gathered around the table
to share and remember that God had heard the cries of his people and freed them
from slavery. Jesus wanted to celebrate
this liberation with his friends. But before sharing the food, he would make
the powerful light of his life shine through an act of service, love and commitment.
When he washes the feet of his disciples, Jesus not only performs an act of
genuine love, he uses concrete gestures to teach the meaning of true
liberation. From what are we supposed to free ourselves? From all pride and
lack of love, from all vanity and unrighteousness, from the lack of
hospitality… I invite you today to renew our commitment of love with our
neighbors. Look around you, perhaps there is someone who needs to receive your
welcome, perhaps there is an open space at your table to celebrate the love of
God, or perhaps a neighbor needs to talk and to feel himself heard. It is also possible that your community needs
your participation. Jesus calls us to genuine love that is experienced through
commitment, service, and humility.
Prayer: Jesus, help us to take your light to each corner of darkness. We ask of you, that instead of evil in the
world, goodness and service may grow; that instead of hate and betrayal, you
may make love, humility and faithfulness grow.
Amen.
EL AMOR GENUINO
JUAN 13:1-15
Pues si yo, el Señor y el Maestro, les he lavado los pies, también ustedes
deben lavarse los pies unos a otros.

Mesa compartida y espiritualidad, pan bendecido y repartido, gestos de
servicio y humildad. Estas son las palabras que me vienen a la mente en el
Jueves Santo. Jesús, la tarde antes de padecer, quiso celebrar la Pascua con
sus discípulos. Alrededor de una mesa el
pueblo hebreo se reunía para compartir y recordar que Dios escuchó el grito de
su pueblo y los liberó de la esclavitud. Jesús quiso celebrar esta liberación
con sus amigos. Pero antes de compartir los alimentos, hará brillar la luz
poderosa de su vida con un acto de servicio, amor y compromiso. Al lavar los
pies de sus discípulos, Jesús no sólo muestra un acto de amor genuino, sino que
enseña con gestos concretos en qué consiste la verdadera liberación. ¿De qué
debemos liberarnos? Pues de todo orgullo y falta de amor, de toda vanagloria y
relaciones de injusticias, de la falta de hospitalidad... Les invito hoy a
renovar nuestro compromiso de amor con nuestro prójimo. Mira a tu alrededor,
tal vez alguien necesite ser acogido, quizás haya un espacio disponible en tu
mesa para celebrar el amor de Dios, o un vecino necesite hablar y sentirse
escuchado. Es posible además que tu comunidad necesite de tu participación.
Jesús nos llama al amor genuino que se vive en el compromiso, el servicio y la
humildad.
Oración:
Jesús, ayúdanos a llevar tu luz a cada rincón de oscuridad. Te pedimos que en
vez del mal en el mundo, crezca la bondad y el servicio, que en vez del odio y
la traición, hagas crecer el amor, la humildad y la fidelidad. Amén
