WALKING IN CHRIST

Ephesians 5:2-15

“Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in his ways and revering him.”

Deuteronomy 8:6

The apostle Paul coined the phrase “to be in Christ,” which does not mean simply to be with Him.  I think the differences are identifiable: one can be with someone, physically by their side, listening to them, even helping them, but there could still be an abyss separating the two.  Solitude is not just the absence of company; it is the lack of solidarity and identification.  In this sense the Pauline phrase “to be in Christ” implies an immersion in Christ’s being.  It is being within Him in such a way that one’s life is impregnated by His and transformed, modified, and turned into a reflection of His own.

Christians were initially recognized by that capacity to share and to live communally. They were also known as “those of the Way,” indicating this constant pilgrimage of the disciples that, following Christ’s example, wandered from place to place spreading the word of the Kingdom.

Walking, many thought that the way would be easy, and were not able to continue the journey because of the resulting exhaustion, or because they thought it would bring some material advantages and it didn’t, or because they misunderstood the meaning of the narrow pathway. How many can walk through that narrow route?  Only those who have a profound certainty of faith.

Prayer: I want to walk with you, Jesus, and to walk in you.  May your life infuse new life in mine in order to become your faithful follower.

CAMINAR EN CRISTO

Efesios 5:2-15

y ve por sus caminos, y témele”

El apóstol Pablo acuñó la frase “estar en Cristo”, que no significa simplemente estar con Él. Las diferencias creo que son identificables, uno puede estar con alguien, físicamente le acompaña, le escucha, incluso hasta le ayuda, pero puede haber un abismo que todavía le separa. La soledad no es tan solo ausencia de compañía, es falta de solidaridad e identificación. En tal sentido la frase paulina “estar en Cristo” implica una inmersión en el ser de Cristo, es un estar dentro de Él de manera que su vida impregna la nuestra y la transforma, la modifica, la convierte en un reflejo de la suya propia.

A los cristianos les conocían inicialmente por esa capacidad de compartir y vivir una vida en comunidad. También se hicieron conocidos como “los del Camino”, indicando este constante peregrinar de los discípulos que, siguiendo el ejemplo de Cristo, deambulaban de lugar en lugar llevando la palabra del Reino.

Caminar, muchos pensaron que el camino era fácil, y no pudieron continuar la jornada por lo agotadora que resultaba, o porque pensaron que traería algunas ventajas materiales y no las encontraron, o porque equivocaron el sentido de la senda estrecha. ¿Cuántos pueden transitar por esta ruta angosta?, solo los que tienen una certeza de fe profunda.

Oración: Quiero andar contigo Jesús, y andar en ti. Que tu vida infunda nueva vida a las mía para ser tu fiel seguidor.
