OUR REQUESTS

Psalm 6

“Blessed be God, for he has not rejected my prayer

or removed his steadfast love from me!”

Psalm 66:20 

The Psalms contain the whole range of prayer: complaints, requests, confessions and gratitude, praise and worship. The prayer of complaint expresses a profound suffering; the prayer of request is the cry of faith from the person suffering. David, author of numerous psalms, experienced suffering, humiliation, abandonment and even betrayal. He also felt pain for having sinned. Nevertheless, the profound feeling of divine grace permitted him to pass through those moments of suffering and despondency without falling into desperation.

This psalm is the first of the “seven” so called penitents, which means pain and anguish for something one believes oneself to have done wrong, something akin to remorse. David finds himself burdened and sick, his enemies are taking advantage of the occasion to attack him; but he approaches God in prayer and through his cries, and he could perceive that the Lord wasn’t absent, but that he had been waiting for David to approach him in prayer.  

What most worried David is that he was not pleasing God. We too can pass through moments of shame and suffering for our bad behavior. And we ask, how can I pray to that God whom I’ve so greatly offended? But don’t forget that the Lord is impatiently waiting for you to draw near Him in prayer. You can do it now. 

Prayer:  Faithful God, thank you for being willing to listen to me and to attend to my requests.

SALMO 6

“¡Bendito sea Dios, que no rechazó mi oración

ni me escatimó su misericordia!”

Salmo 66:20 

Los salmos contienen toda la gama de la oración: la queja, la súplica, la confesión, el agradecimiento, la alabanza y la adoración. La queja expresa un sufrimiento profundo, la súplica es el clamor de la fe de la persona que sufre. David, autor de numerosos salmos, pasó por el sufrimiento, la humillación, el abandono e incluso la traición. También sintió el dolor por haber pecado. No obstante, el sentimiento profundo de la gracia divina le permitió atravesar esos momentos de sufrimiento y abatimiento sin caer en la desesperación.

Este Salmo es el primero de los “siete” llamados penitentes, que significa dolor y congoja por algo que se cree se hizo mal, algo parecido al remordimiento. David se encuentra muy agobiado y enfermo, sus enemigos aprovechan la ocasión para arremeter contra él. Pero se acercó a Dios en oración y clamor, y pudo percatarse que el Señor no estaba ausente, sino esperando que David se acerara a él en oración.

Lo que más preocupaba a David es que no está agradando a Dios. Nosotros  también podemos pasar por momentos de vergüenza y sufrimiento por nuestro mal comportamiento, y preguntarnos: ¿Cómo puedo orar a ese Dios a quien tanto he ofendido? Pero no olvides que el Señor está esperando impaciente que te acerques a Él en oración, ahora puedes hacerlo.

Oración: Fiel Dios, gracias por estar dispuesto a escucharme y a atender mis súplicas.
