A MAN OF TRUTH
Matthew 1:18-25
“…and to clothe yourselves with the new self,
created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Ephesians 4:24
As I understand it, there’s a man who brings
together a conglomerate of qualities and characteristics which make him an
exemplary person, deserving of imitation and praise. He wasn’t rich, he was
unassuming, and perhaps he hadn’t had the chance to study much. He perhaps was
not very famous in his time, and nevertheless he has transcended history. Not
much is said of him in the Sacred Scriptures, yet history wouldn’t have been
the same without him. The man I refer to is Joseph, Mary’s husband, and earthly
father of Jesus. There are perhaps many who ridicule and malign him thinking that
he had been deceived by Mary, and for being unable to discern spiritual things.
Through obedience Joseph decided to face up to his uncertainties and to be
exposed when Mary’s stomach began swelling without being married. It was he who
fed, protected and defended her. It was Joseph who taught Jesus the carpentry
trade and gave him instruction, adopting and loving a son who wasn’t
biologically his. But he knew Jesus was fruit from God and would be the Savior
of the world.
When we analyze the behavior and the actions of
this man we can come to the conclusion that we’re dealing with a solid person
who exemplified humility, known more for his actions than for what he could
have said. Imagine him as loving, patient, a worker, simple, practical,
discreet, and of sensitive heart.
Prayer: Lord, I pray on behalf of the
good men who day by day share the history of salvation.

HOMBRE DE VERDAD

Hay un
hombre que, a mi entender, reúne un conglomerado de cualidades y
características que hacen de él un hombre ejemplar, digno de imitar y de
elogiar. No fue rico, era sencillo, quizás no tuvo la oportunidad de estudiar
mucho. No fue tal vez muy famoso en su tiempo y sin embargo ha trascendido en
la historia. No se habla mucho de él en las Sagradas Escrituras y sin embargo
la historia no hubiese sido igual sin él. Al hombre al que me refiero se llamó
José, el esposo de María y padre terrenal de Jesús. Tal vez muchos se burlaron
y difamaron en contra de él al pensar que había sido engañado por María, y por
no poder discernir las cosas espirituales. Por obediencia, José decidió
afrontar cualquier cosa y ser expuesto cuando la barriga de María crecía sin
estar casada. Fue él quien la alimentó, protegió y defendió. José fue el que le
enseñó a Jesús el oficio de la carpintería y dio cátedra adoptando y amando a
un hijo que biológicamente no era de él, pero que él sabía que era fruto de
Dios y sería el Salvador del mundo.
Cuando
analizamos el comportamiento y el proceder de este hombre, podemos llegar a la
conclusión de que se trata de un hombre de una sola pieza, ejemplo de humildad,
al que se conoce más por sus acciones que por lo que pudo haber dicho.
Imaginémoslo amoroso, paciente, trabajador, sencillo, practico, discreto y de
corazón sensible.
Oración: Señor, te pido por los buenos hombres que
comparten día a día la historia de salvación.
