Celebration of the Mission Church in Paredes

A LIVING SACRIFICE

I CORINTHIANS 9: 19-23

I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

Romans 12:1 (NRSV)

            Among the ritual practices in the Temple in Jerusalem, the daily sacrifice of animals was unavoidable. Somehow, for many it was a way to keep God propitious, to gain God’s favor. When someone violated the Law, he then had to present an animal for sacrifice, assuming that somehow his sin was settled with the death of the victim at the altar of burnt offerings.

            According to Paul, the true “sacrifice” occurs every day and in all circumstances. The apostle knows what this type of surrender has meant to him personally, as a living offering. His humble and incarnate attitude, following the example of Jesus Christ led him to a ministry that reached many in various places.

            How do we make the mandate to present ourselves as a living sacrifice a reality? Consider these possibilities:

            We should always put others in first place.

            We should think about the teachings of the Bible before we act.

            We should consider whether everything we do gives glory to God.

Prayer: Lord, we want to give you our lives as an offering that pays tribute to your name. Train us for this mission. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

UN SACRIFICIO VIVO

I COR. 9: 19-23

“Hermanos míos, les ruego por la misericordia de Dios que se presenten ustedes mismos como ofrenda viva, santa y agradable a Dios”.

Ro. 12:1

            Dentro de las prácticas rituales en el Templo de Jerusalén la presentación de sacrificios diarios de animales era insoslayable. De alguna manera, para muchos, era una vía para mantener a Dios propicio, ganarse su favor. Cuando alguien ofendía la Ley, igualmente debía presentar un animal para el sacrificio, asumiendo que de alguna manera su pecado quedaba saldado con la muerte de la víctima en el altar de los holocaustos.

            Acorde con Pablo, el verdadero “sacrificio” es el de cada día y en todas las circunstancias. El apóstol sabe lo que le ha significado a él en lo personal ese tipo de entrega, como ofrenda viva; su actitud humilde y encarnada, siguiendo el ejemplo de Jesucristo, le llevó a un ministerio para alcanzar a muchos en diversos lugares.

            ¿En qué modos hacemos realidad el mandato de presentarnos como un sacrificio vivo? Consideremos estas proposiciones:

            Pongamos siempre a los demás en primer lugar

            Pensemos en la enseñanza bíblica antes de actuar

            Consideremos si todo lo que hacemos da gloria a Dios

Oración: Señor, queremos entregarte nuestras vidas como una ofrenda que rinda tributo a tu nombre. Capacítanos para esta misión. Por Jesucristo te lo pedimos. Amén.
