THE FEAR OF GOD INCREASES ONE’S LIFE

PROVERBS 10:27-32

The fear of the Lord increases one’s life, but the years of the wicked will be cut short.  

Proverbs 10:27 (CEB)

            Of this there is no doubt.  The fear of the Lord creates virtuous habits and these impede the waste of life that comes from sin and vice.  The holy peace that bubbles up from faith in the Lord Jesus also greatly helps anyone who is sick.  All doctors are happy to have a patient whose spirit is completely calm.  Worries kill, but trust in God is like a healing medicine.

            We have all the means for a long life, and yes, it is really for our good.  We will grow old and come to the grave like grains of wheat in their time.  Let’s not expect a misfortune when we hurt a little finger, but better that we count on working throughout a life of considerable length.   

            And if we were called soon to a higher sphere?  Certainly, there would be nothing to lament if we die, but instead there would be cause for rejoicing.  Living or dying, we are the Lord’s.  If we live, Jesus will be with us; and if we die, we will be with Jesus

Prayer:  Lord and God, let us not waste time while we live, but use every minute for higher ends.  May it be so today.  Amen.

EL TEMOR DE JEHOVA AUMENTARA LOS DIAS

PROVERBIOS 10:27-32

El temor de Jehová aumentará los días; más los años de los impíos serán acortados

Proverbios 10:27

            De esto no cabe duda. El temor del Señor conduce a costumbres virtuosas y éstas impiden ese derroche de la vida que viene del pecado y del vicio. La tranquilidad santa que brota de la fe en el Señor Jesús también ayuda grandemente a quien está enfermo. Todo médico se alegra de tener un paciente cuyo espíritu está del todo tranquilo. La preocupación mata, pero la confianza en Dios es como una medicina saludable.

            Tenemos entonces todos los medios para una vida larga, y si es realmente para nuestro bien, envejeceremos y vendremos al sepulcro como gavillas de trigo en su tiempo. No esperemos una desgracia al momento que nos duela un dedo, sino más bien contemos con trabajar durante una vida de considerable largura.

            ¿Y si fuésemos llamados pronto a una esfera más elevada? Ciertamente no habrá nada que lamentar en tal estimación; más bien sería causa de regocijo. Viviendo o muriendo somos del Señor. Si vivimos, Jesús estará con nosotros; y si morimos, estaremos con Jesús.

Oración: Señor y Dios, permite que mientras vivamos no malgastemos el tiempo, sino que usemos cada minuto para los fines más elevados. Que así sea este día. Amén.
