A LITTLE BREAD

GENESIS 18:1-8

Let me bring a little bread

Genesis 18:5 (NRSV)

            Abraham extended an invitation to his three visitors to be his guests and established a model that showed only a little. Abraham’s first concern was for their physical well being: water, bread, and rest. And so today we offer something to those who come to our homes. We do the best we can for our visitors.

            But, do we always demonstrate hospitality to God? God is willing and eager to be invited into our homes and our hearts, if only we open them to God. But we often shut the door, denying God entry and losing his viewpoint, inspiration and strength for facing the problems of our daily living.  God is the primary need of our spiritual lives just as bread is the greatest need of our physical bodies.  Many of us waste a lot of time and experiences, sorrows, and frustrations before coming to the realization of this basic need; then we realize that we have the privilege of inviting God to share our life and asking him to share the Bread of Life. We also learn that when we ask with faith and with an open heart, we receive more than we deserve.

Prayer: Jesus, become a fellow traveler in our lives today. Amen.

UN BOCADO DE PAN

GENESIS 18:1-8

… y traeré un bocado de pan

Génesis 18:5

            Abraham extendió una invitación a sus tres visitantes para que fueran sus huéspedes y estableció un modelo que ha tenido muy poco. La primera preocupación de Abraham fue para el bienestar físico: agua, pan y descanso. Así hoy ofrecemos algo a los que llegan a nuestros hogares. Hacemos lo mejor que podemos para nuestros visitantes.

            Pero ¿mostramos siempre hospitalidad a Dios? Él está dispuesto y deseoso de ser invitado a nuestros hogares y corazones, si sólo se los abrimos a Él. Pero frecuentemente cerramos la puerta, negándole entrada, y perdiendo su orientación, inspiración y fortaleza para enfrentar los problemas de nuestra vida diaria. Dios es la primera necesidad de nuestras vidas espirituales de la misma manera que el pan es la demanda primaria de nuestros cuerpos físicos. Muchos de nosotros necesitamos mucho tiempo y muchas experiencias, dolores y frustraciones antes de llegar a reconocer esta necesidad básica, pero cuando la reconocemos, como hizo Abraham, entonces nos damos cuenta de que tenemos el privilegio de invitar a Dios que comparta nuestra existencia y pedirle el Pan de Vida. Aprendemos también que cuando pedimos con fe y con corazón abierto, recibimos más de lo que merecemos.

Oración: Jesús, conviértete hoy en un compañero de camino en nuestras vidas. Amén.
