LOVE THAT UNITES AND FILLS WITH PEACE

GENESIS 45:1-15

And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them.

I know families in which the brothers became enemies because of jealousy over inheritances, or because they became attached to one son more than the other. The years have passed, and these people remain alienated, with hearts full of rancor. We can find some accounts of  the carnal relations between brothers in biblical texts, but this one, in which jealousy motivated Joseph’s brothers to sell him as a slave when he was just a teenager, is one of the most beautiful.

As time passed Joseph became an important person, and always had the idea of initiating a meeting with his brothers. On seeing them he kissed them, without being able to contain his weeping, and he let them know that he didn’t hold any grudges for the evil done to him years before.

Today’s text brings us closer to recognizing the value of forgiveness and to leave negative feelings aside that separate us from our brothers. But it would say more about any other member of the family with whom we may be estranged: This is a love that unites and fills with peace!

Prayer:  Lord, bring the distanced brothers together, and help us to understand the importance of forgiveness. Amen.

AMOR QUE UNE Y LLENA DE PAZ

GÉNESIS 45:1-15

˝Llorando también, José besó luego a todos sus hermanos,

y después, sus hermanos hablaron con él˝.

            Conozco familias en que los hermanos se enemistaron por celos a causa de herencias, o porque los padres se apegaron más aun hijo que a otro. Han pasado los años y estas personas continúan separadas con corazones llenos de rencor. En los textos bíblicos podemos encontrar algunas historias sobre las relaciones entre hermanos carnales, pero esta de José, es una de las más hermosas, donde los celos motivaron que los hermanos lo vendieran como esclavo, cuando apenas era un adolescente.

            Al pasar el tiempo, José se convirtió en una persona muy importante, y siempre tuvo la idea de propiciar un encuentro con sus hermanos. Al verlos, los besó sin poder contener el llanto, y les hizo saber que no les guardaba rencor por la maldad de antaño. Este texto de hoy nos acerca a reconocer el valor del perdón, y a dejar a un lado sentimientos negativos que nos separan de nuestros hermanos, pero diría más, de cualquier otro miembro de la familia del que estemos alejados. ¡Ese es un amor que une y llena de paz!

Oración: Señor, une a los hermanos distanciados, y ayúdanos a comprender la importancia del perdón. Amén.
