NO MATTER WHAT THEY THINK

 

MarK 6:1-6

 

“And he was amazed at their lack of faith. Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.”

Mark 6:6

 

According to this gospel story, Jesus had not been received in Nazareth as in other places.  Amid a combination of admiration, scandal and disbelief, Jesus undoubtedly put his best effort into doing good to those who had witnessed his growth and apprenticeship in life.  And yet he was able to do very little there. The taboo of being “the carpenter’s son…” took from many the possibility of enjoying the blessings brought to them by the Son of God.  Jesus did not feel offended, however, and he performed the miracles he could and went around teaching from village to village.

 

Jesus did not take into account the disbelief and the questioning of those around him, and he did good works through teaching. We also, like our Teacher, should overcome our prejudices and our resentments, and serve all who need it no matter what they may think about us.  Of course this is no easy thing to do, but it is one of the invitations that God issues us through the example of Jesus of Nazareth himself.

 

Today, let us perform all the “miracles’ within our reach.  Let’s not be the disbelievers who get in the way of God’s good will for his people.  In this manner we will be ensuring that God’s kingdom will become fuller each day.

 

 

Prayer: God of goodness, increase our faith, take away our prejudices; grant us growth in the light of the teachings of Jesus.  Amen.

 

Sin importar lo que piensen

 

Marcos 6:1-6

 

“Y estaba asombrado de la incredulidad de ellos.

Y recorría las aldeas de alrededor, enseñando”

Según narra este episodio del evangelio Jesús no había sido recibido en Nazaret como en otros lugares. En medio de una mezcla de admiración, escándalo e incredulidad Jesús puso seguramente su mejor empeño para hacer el bien a aquellos que habían sido testigos de su crecimiento y aprendizaje en la vida. Sin embargo allí muy poco pudo hacer, el tabú de ser “el hijo del carpintero…” quitó a muchos la posibilidad de disfrutar de las bendiciones que les traía el Hijo de Dios. Sin embargo Jesús no se sintió ofendido y obró los milagros que pudo y recorrió las aldeas del lugar enseñando.

Jesús no tomó en cuenta el descreimiento y el cuestionamiento de quienes le rodeaban, e hizo el bien enseñando. Nosotros, como nuestro Maestro, también debemos pasar por encima de nuestros prejuicios y nuestros rencores, y servir a todos los que lo necesiten sin importar lo que piensen sobre nosotros. Claro que esto no es nada fácil, pero es una de las invitaciones que nos hace Dios a partir del ejemplo del propio Jesús de Nazaret.

Hagamos hoy todos los “milagros” que estén a nuestro alcance. No seamos nosotros los incrédulos que se interponen en la buena voluntad de Dios para con su pueblo. De esta manera estaremos propiciando que el reinado de Dios se haga más pleno cada día.

 

Oración: Dios bueno, aumenta nuestra fe, quita nuestros prejuicios, permítenos crecer a la luz de las enseñanzas de Jesús. Amén.
